Oh what a wonderful year!!

My car has been bitten by the kerb monster. I wasn't even hoofing it. Wet road and diesel.

No body damage visible however my near side rear is at 45 degrees, and the alloy is totally shattered.

Off for guesstimate on Friday afternoon. No problem in picking car up from accident onto low loader, but because they had to drive it off at my home made an awful noise. I'm hoping they've not buggered the diff. Made a separate claim against RAC just incase.

As the car is an import, do you guys ( and gals) have any idea of repair cost. Initial reaction from insurer was write off. If this is the case is it worth me buying it off them to repair myself? Wheel and suspension definately b*ggered, so that will include the HICAS I expect.

All info gratefully received,

Simon:( :( :(

well buddy

it is well worth buying back for scrap value however if it has been officially written off you may have to re register it as a Q

plate ............the easy fix is to get the diff and rear axle from a NA

as the final drive is better giving much better acceleration at the cost of a little top end but be honest do you normally go past 165

mph dissconnect the hicas and do without ,

see what is available as spare parts or cars breaking for spares for the bits you need , check the chassis assembly isnt out of whack either as that wil be costly to be re jigged, if you need a wheel i have just replaced the Jap inport stock items with 19" dare alloys so i could get you away with that aspect of it

good luck

Steve

Hi Simon

Sorry to hear about your Z m8t.

I am sure you can get most if not all! of the components you want to fix it!

Suppose it depends on any damage to the stucture of the car.

Of course you will get some saying get it back as an insurance write off, buy a new Z and sell the bits off your broken car! make some cash in the process.

Are cars are worth more in bits!!!

I would say Andy is the first call, when you know what

bits you want.

All the best in the New Year

Arthur

it really depends what sort of damage has been done - its no good guessing, get a proper estimate done!

its probably going to need all the suspension arms & hicas link arm replacing, poss hub as well.

the parts are quite expensive, but unless youve damaged something major i dont think it would write it off, replacing the parts with second hand bits will obviously be a lot cheaper.

get it checked out properly!! ;)

Thanks guys. I am fully comprehensively insured (renewal in 22 days!!!) so I am getting them to look at it first.

Collection due Friday pm. so I'll post results as soon as I have them.

Simon.

sorry about the bad news i know what you are going through as ive just got my car fixed from spining of the road and hit bushes and a post

i was very lucky as ive go 3k of chrome 18" alloys but not a mark on them as it went over the curb. i just had pannel damage.

go to the trades form and see andyz he will have all the bits you need i got all mine from him and he is very cheap

the insuance company was going to pay 2k out to fix the zed but after i never went with them in the end ive done the job for under £400 and iam crap with cars.

its worth geting a price from a local garage and see if you can get it done cheap.

is its worth all the hassel of loseing your no claims and paying more for the insuarce next year and dont forget your exess on top to pay.

Sorry to hear Simon. I would agree with the last comment, if it works out not too much in costs go independant.

Good luck,

Geoff.

Simax,

Have supplied 3 lots of rear side suspension and wheels in the last 2 months due to the very same impact./

I have all the parts you are likely to need, the repair is very straight forward.

The the lower suspension wishbone takes most of the force of the impact and bends up at the rear, although this takes other parts with it like the hicas arm it does mean the chassis etc escapes damage in most cases, having said that an inspection is very important to be sure.

If you need any parts call or mail me, if the insurance go mental and write it off, then you may actually be better off.

Jeff @Zedworld

With regard to it coming back with a "Q", it wont. If they sell it to you it will def stay with the original number. 100%

Well guys fairly good result.:)

They're not going to write it off, and are looking at replacing two, if not three of the alloys as well. (One I totally destroyed).

The engineer has advised me depending on the price of the alloys they may offer me some alternatives that fit the car. I'm working on him now to see if I can pay the extra for a set I want.:D ;)

Just waiting for a time scale now. Slight rubbing on underneath of sill to be repaired, and all suspension etc. from nearside rear, plus front and rear nearside wheels, and possibly rear offside alloy as well.

Anyone else had to wait for something similar from their insurance (Norwich Union for me) and how long did it take? I expect someone out there has an idea how much new standard alloys for an import are as well. What sort of price am I looking at?

Last thing to do now is find out how quickly I could get a set of 18" Azev A alloys with rubber. With luck quicker than they can get the parts:D

Simon.

Hi Simon,

Sorry to hear about your mishap, but glad it looks like it's gonna work out OK.

I had a 'incident' with my near side rear wheel just after Boxing Day (see thread "done something really really stupid), and I was not at all happy with the service I got from RAC. Not only did they leave me at the side of the M25 in freezing conditions for 2.5 hours, they also sent one of their contractors, who were a total bunch of ANIMALS! They's put a huge dent in the bottom of the sill, where they didn't put the jack on correctly!

I've chased the RAC about my complaint, but all I get is stroppy operators on the line, who tell me that I am wrong as their contractors are all approved. They then tell me it will take at least 14 days for them to start to investigate my complaint!

Let us know how you get on if you don't mind!

Cheers

Neil

Neil,

So far so good. RAC have been cooperative and are awaiting an assessors report on any separate damage caused by their transportation. There is some pressure coming from my insurers as well, as they use the RAC as their approved recoverers.

I'll update you as and when it progresses.

I hope you are regaining your confidence with your car again now. I've got this to go through when mine returns. I think traction control will have to be high on my future list of updates, although whether it could have stopped what happened to me is another matter...15mph forward, as I span sideways at what seemed a lot faster. Two and a half revolutions and two kerbs later........... well you know the rest

Take care,

Simon.

I had a problem with Green Flag, who only use contractors. As with you they sent an idiot, no damage was done but he threatened to leave me on the road side as he had never recovered a caravan before???? I took his keys and said no recovery, no keys, he phoned the police etc etc.

Long story short I loaded it, complained and got a free years recovery, worth about 6pence. Took a while, just keep on and on and on etc. Dont give up. I am sure they try and out last you. And go to the top, or as near as you can.

Simon,

I too recently had the exact same situation as you. As far as timescales go, it'll all be down to the repair centre that eventually does the work. The turnaround from getting the estimate and subsequent insurer's approval was very quick, only a day or two after dropping the car off at the repair centre.

Getting parts appears to have gone smoothly in my case although, that said, I've been promised the car back on various dates so far, all of which have been postponed. In fact I'm supposed to be getting a call today but it doesn't look like that's going to happen either. The only time I managed to speak to an engineer, they were waiting on getting the final alignment checked.

I can't recall exact dates but I think the car's been away for about a month now, including the xmas & new year break. As long as I'm not left waiting too much longer I'd consider that a good turnaround - it would probably have been quicker if it had been in a quieter period of the year.

Hope you get your car back soon, anyway!
