K - not looking to sell the Z unlike the usual trend - its been way too reliable workhorse and so has anyone fitted a baby seat into theirs and if so how did they do it?

 

I think I'll need to put UK seatbelts into the back though to replace the Jap ones as its an import.

I've not done this but it was something I thought about during my hunt for a car.

Should all be possible providing the front seats are not all the way back.

 

Maybe time to retire the Z to funday status and get a growns up car as a daily driver - saving heaps on insurance and wear and tear... Silly thought.

I drive it daily anyway and we have an Almera as our other car!

 

Do I need any Special fittings? Or does the ISO fixing just strap right in with the seat belts?

Providing it is three point shoulder/lap then it should fit into the seat as standard. Best thing to do is pop down to a large out of town Mothercare and try out some seats.

 

Edit - Or pop round to a pals house and try there seat. Lancs is a bit far away from me or you could have had our spare. Little bugger grows so fast...

Spent a fortune on a Britax reclining seat to fit in the missus' Grand Vitara to cart the little lad around in. Came to fit it in the 300 and it was no good. Spent ages trawling round the variouys shops looking for something to fti, with no joy.

 

Ended up buying one from Argos (page 1024 item 4) as it was th only one that nearly fits. Have made a little platform for it to sit on to make it fit better.

 

Only works for 9 month olds onwards though, so youve a bit to go yet.

OK - all u guys have to help or as if no baby set ion the Z - Then no Z - I'll have to sell it as I cant run 2 cars and the baby will have to go into my car.

Hang on before you give up - when I get my Z (next week hopefuly) I will try the spare seat in it - it looked like it should fit - do you have your front seats all the way back?

I have a solution for you mate, the rear facing ones no prob, they fit in back and you are allowed by law to put em in front. They are easy to take in and out.

 

As for when your nipper out grows that, you will not get a seat to fit the rear buckets of the Z. Not even the porsche seats fit.

 

I have tried many stores and nearly all brands, nothing would fit. Also made enquires with the manufacturors and none of them can recomend one.

 

I purchased a baby seat from halfords that wasn't the traditional L shape, the back was higher than the bottom and it looked like it would fit in the bucket. It was the only one this shape i could find. However, it was still to big to fit in the bucket god damn!! (if you want brand though ill find out as it does work later)

 

So determined to make it fit i did the following;

 

Bang a small scatter cushion in the bucket bit. Put the child seat on the back seat, kneal on it (like your supposed to) and strap it in as normal. Tighten the belt as much as poss. You'll notice when youve done this youve still got a fair bit of movement in it, it will come forward enough to hit the front seat, not good. it may rock left and right slightly but not too much. To secure it so it goes no where I then used the strongest lugage strap I could find (I could hang my car off this ****er) with a metal lockinh unit to anchor it around the back seat. Basically I took the cover off of the child seat and threaded the lugage strap through the bottom of it, up the inside and out the top. When you put the cover back on it pads out the strap and your kiddy wont feel it. Then I put one end over the top of the backseat and pushed the other end under the upright bit of the back seat. Tightened em imensley, and locked it shut in the boot at the back of the back seat.

 

Now the seat was going absolutly no where and was safer than the front seats.

 

So the normal seat belt fitting should stop it from going left and right loads, and the lugage strap will stop it from moving forward, or anywhere at all for that matter.

 

My initial concern with this was that the catch of the backseat could come undone in the event of an accident. So I put it through some tests, basically pulling on the fkin thing as hard as I could with some mates, and it didnt come undone once. To resecure it even more though if your a bit paranoid you could bracket the seat to the car chasis. Bear in mind obviously you aint gonna be able to put the seats down anyways with the baby seat in.

 

I used this for over a year and its still working fine. The only thing is remember to put some black cloth padding under the lugage strap where its pulled tight around the seat or you will kill your leather.

 

May sound bodge, but it works fine, looks fine and my little girls fine 2.

I can gladly tell you I've got one that works a treat. The belt in the front is too short to go round most seats. But if you get one with a separate base that you leave in the car, the front seat belt fits this no problem.

 

Mine's a Graco seat that I got from Mothercare. It also handily unslots from the base and slots straight into the pram so no waking him up.

 

Jane will be so so so proud of me tomorrow when I tell her I posted stuff about baby car seats on a car forum the night before the world cup final!

try your local council, most operate a child seat centre .they carry a large selection and will fit all until the correct one is found. in my case it was over 30 seats and 3 hours. the one that fitted the best was a brittax recliner it has a plastic erm box thing that flips under the seat to change the angle but with the zeds bucket seat it fits perfectley into the bucket, you do need a ratchet to secure the seat( from halfords desighned for the purpose as it has to be fitted to the side). it is rock solid but not for a newborn.if you need the model give me a shout.If your council does not provide this service lie about your address and try any adjoining boroughs.

 

the child seat should not be a problem but nothing you can do about the boot space you will see what i mean soon ( 8lb baby = 80 lb's of crap you need to drag around )

Not sure about the baby seats, but the info relating to rear facing etc is all correct, but there's a really simple way of putting a group 2+ seat in.

 

I bought a seat from Halfords for about £60 (there was only one that fitted). It didn't fit down into the bucket and the seat also had a recess in the underside. So I put a bin liner on the seat (to protect the leather) put the baby seat in position and filled the gap with expanding building foam.

Result is that the foam pad fits the bucket seat perfectly, and also locates into the underside of the child's seat. Safe as houses and my 3 year old travels in it every day and delights in telling people that he's going in the noisy car!

Not tryed it in the Z cuz I don't have one any more , but if the belt length is an issue have a look into the greco quick release system (with the plastic base). The belt only goes a short distance around the base. Also the base has a leg to support itself, which maybe a bonus in a Z. It's sold various places inc Halfords.
