OK!

With all the chat about turbos lately, I thought I would start off!

I think the defining factors for most people are Cost and Driveability, i.e. Lag!

So here are my choices with cost being the deciding factor initially!

£1kish Turbos to replace the stock items with, Smithys with uprated seals!

£2kish Pe1420's 500bhp on tap with nigh on stock lag

£3kish JWT 535's what's the point, get 500BHP for a grand less with pe's

£3kish PE1820's 600+BHP not proven yet, have yet to be fitted and proved with uprated manifolds!

£4kish TD05-18G mega HP 600RWHP Laggy but you have to make the sacrifice for BHP eventually!

What d'ya reckon?

OH YES:D!

when you getting them m8? and why havnt you been on msn :(

I hate lag, for me it would be smithy hybrids all the way, with decat and 16psi upgrade,

Apart from Smithy's, does the rest of them come with uprated seals?

Vijay

Oi mark, don't forget me roller bearing jobbies, tested to 600 bhp but designed and built by TD for totally minimal lag, oh and just a tad under 2k

cheers

OK smithy,

To be fair have you got a Dyno Chart so we have some form of comparison? Lagwise?

Just a flow map would do :D

Presuming the costs here are to buy the tubs, how much do they cost to fit? (presuming that you're a lazy git like me who has no intention of doing it themselves).

Smithy,

I could well be in the market for a set. Hopefully financing will come through today!!:( :) Pardon my ignorance, and hijacking this thread but would you expand on the benefits of the two tubs mentioned above.

Would also be interested in costs for fitting, and who's recommended, as I also wouldn't attempt this myself. I live in Hemel Hempstead (M1 Junc 8) so someone local would be best as my car is currently undrivable.

Many thanks,

Simon.

Hi Simon, well i'l have ago ;) but to save on me typing i've just posted spec and price of the most common hybrids in my traders section for someone who asked about price, so check that out next. So that leaves the ball bearing T28 sized ones i mention above, which i have asked TD to supply some more info on to prove their worth, though hopefully another member here who has them AFTER using the HKS ones, may back this up further.

I use these turbo's in my Zed and have awesome amounts of torque pulling power, TD designed them to spool up as quick as possible but still have enough puff in them to hold 600 bhp if you decided that you want to go that far with your engine, whilst at te same time if your not going mega power say around 400 -480 then they will happily go for a long time and provide enough grunt low down, my engine it self is stock, though quite a few add on bits electronically, de-catted and blitz exhaust, twin cones induction, so i know i can go further with me engine and each time benefit from the larger Turbo's, the quicker spool up is ideally suited to Auto's as well who when using other T28's suffer the most lag. They retail for £2350 a pair i sell them for £1920 delivered. average fitting is anywhere from £700 upwards depending if you have any other work done, places to go seem to be SE, Option motorsport (closer to you i think but pricey) Progress engineering, RC Developments who did mine and happy with, Duffers up at GPS and Hiteq near GPS who leave the engine in when going the turbo swap. So in short :D if it's more than mid 400's i recommend these, less than that my other ones in traders section have been very popular here and as mentioned above ALL TD turbo's for nissan's use the stagger gap/total seal piston ring to prevent future rear seal failure, which i know some others don't as members here have had to send theirs back quite soon after fitting. Hope all this helps, anymore, just mail me and i'll try me best.

cheers

Many thanks Smithy.

When I can get a better idea on price of labour I'll know what I can order from you. What turnaround time am I looking at?

Simon:)

I have the turbo's sent direct to yerself or garage from TD and takes approx 4 or 5 days from the time i recieve payment.

I know SE charge 695 for engine out, fitting and back in again, this probaly the cheapest i would imagine cos they have done so many and have certain tools just for the job, the other places i mentioned, give em a ring and ask for a quote is best. Shame RC may be too far for yer though, saying that i drove my car there with knackered rings and turbo's and no rear bumper or tailgate ;) long story that one :D

cheers

K, i'm jumping on the band wagon too now, :)

Firstly i'm aware injectors are quite a limiting factor on the z, if i got a pair of your small hybrids (around £1200 i believe) how much boost could u typically hit before injectors (or other internals) need to be upgraded. The car's stock other than exhaust and filter, i've got a hks boost controller ready and a JWT ecu, will the ecu still be ok?

What kind of power are we talking here? Around 400?

Also ive got one of you rps street clutches, is that likely to start slipping?

Cheers :)

Hi Rob, firstly no probs with yer clutch mate, oh and ECU, don't forget whilst turbo's maybe rated at what ever power, they will only achieve this if you use many other mods to release that potential, like i said my engine itself is stock apart from add on bits.

Stock injectors are said to start maxing at around 15 psi ish and 400 odd brake, so it's claimed, i run 18psi though with a HKS super AFR and would be pretty pissed if i ain't got 400bhp.

So in theory you would run lower boost on hybrids and still have the same power you had before on stocks, adding more stuff to the car to gain more power will see the hybrids, in fact any kind perform even better, as for when would you need to change internals/injectors, simply when and if you wanted more power from the engine, the turbo's would be ready to take it, if you didn't want to add any more bits like injectors or internals, then don't, these smaller hybrids at 1175 quid are only better performing T25's.

Hope that helps, but there are certainly more clued up guys here than me, like Steve E, Duffers or Eric Lymon, so maybe they can explain more if yer need it.

cheers

ho smithy -

can craig get me 600 hp with no lag

Hi Smithy,

To save all the letters toing and froing, it is easier if you just get the turbos dynoed or give us a flow chart!

Why don't you get your car dynoed or one of your customers cars dynoed, or maybe even come to the SE Dyno day:D ;)

Well i could take a nice trip to SE, only it would take me 9 hours to get there, overnight accomadation, nine hours back home and possibly stay the night up Northwest on the way, oh and about 350 quid, yeah, i'll give that some serious thought   what's the point in having a car dynoed ? if it's engine ain't up to spec, the blowers on their own are hardly gonna make over 500 bhp

Gees yer try and do yer best and show what you find out after 2 people in the thread asked for differences and a certain company making claims, no probs. It's deleated :(

Smithy No offence meant!

I only asked for a Dyno chart!

hi smithy,

its looking unlikely that my car is going to back togeather for the rolling road day - but once i get a dyno i'll give it to you.

if turns out my engine is *****xed - i'll get a new one built and dyno that one.

Regards,

Alex

****quick disclaimer*****

my post asking if craig could get 600hp and no lag WAS a joke - personally i'm looking forawrd to fitting his turbos and seeing what the baby's can do.

less lag is the way to go.

However if anyone can provide me with turbos that will get me 600hp at 14opsi and no lag i might be persuaded to change.

Regards,

Alex

Dont worry smithy, you've gotta be one of the most valued people here, good quick service, on great products at great prices cant be bad!!

Only but a clutch kit off you and no problems there, will be getting a turbo kit off you as soon as i sell my other car (anyone want a 620ti??) and hopefully all will go well there.

Now where's my cheque? Complements don't come free ya know :D

Oh, and post that message up again, i thought it was quite interesting.

:)
