Hi all...

In doing some ringing round for Group insurance on the Zeds, I thought I'd try the recovery companies as well, as we all know how reliable these cars can be.... :D

The AA have come back to me first with their information and they offer 15% discount to club members. This also includes (as standard) the following :

Caravan Recovery

Trailer Recovery

Motorbike Recovery

Reasonable off road access

Up to 8 passengers including the member

Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and 23' in length

No lower age limit to membership

No age limit on vehicles covered.

Added to which, they will give a commission to the 300ZX.CO.UK club for every new member that joins.

So - my question is this - would people be interested in this scheme?

I would be interested in AA Club Membership 16 members have voted

Sounds good, I'm just the the RAC at the moment.

Jesus Ajay!! I just sat down at my desk and was thinking about getting some breakdown cover!!! Freaky.....

I was thinking of asking for everyone's opinion on the various companies out there, but my folks are with the AA and they have always had a good service and the RAC got slated on T.V a while back in 'rogue traders'. Cheaper membership could well interset me. What was the anual cost???

Glenn.....

Great idea Ajay, I'm already with the AA so wouls I still qualify?

As there is no set start date, the discount would be available from your renewal date. This allows for new members to join as and when, rather than waiting for the Club Start Date to roll round again.

The schemes available on the 15% discount option are :

Option 100 (Roadside Assistance)

Option 200 (Roadside & Relay)

Option 300 (Roadside, Relay & Home Start)

Option 400 (Roadside, Relay, Home Start & Relay Plus)

A breakdown of each option and standard pricing is here

Remember that the prices shown are without the 15% discount.

Great idea Neet ... only voted "no" cos I get it free with my bank account, so if you need a list of names then no need to include mine.

Keep up the good work, though!! The more of these deals available, hopefully more people will be persuaded to cough up that enormous 20 quid! :D

Good work Ajay!

Think AA are pretty pricey though.......but not gonna knock it cos its an excellent start.

Good Idea but I think it's still more expensive than what I have already with the RAC.

Which is myself and Cerina for £79 which covers both Z's

Im with the RAC at the moment.

I only needed them once but that one time they get the street wrong dispite me arguing with them where I was, they said they would be 40 mins but took 2 hours, put my problem down as an exaust problem even though I said it wasnt, my request for a flatbed turned into a van which towed me.

And to top it all off they dont do the Little Chief 15% discount to RAC members.

I've asked the other major ones as well - RAC, Green Flag, Direct Line etc but so far the AA are the only ones whose details I have

received.

When I get the rest, I'll post up their details and we can decide on which one is the best for the club. :)

simply because i'm not sure i could trust them!! I've heard several horror stories about different organizations causing even more damage trying to diagnose problems on a car they've never lifted the bonnet on before...

For example turning the engine over numerous times after the head gasket's gone!

I don't think you could ever expect any of these type of people to have any more than a basic generic mechanical knowledge, especially with rare cars such as ours. However, the bottom line is that if your car is buggered then they'll take it somewhere for you, rather than it being left on the side of the road for hours|days !

I don't expect them to fix it, but I expect it to be taken home or to somewhere that can - and that's what matters to me.

therefore, I have voted yes, because I think it's a great idea, no matter who we may end up with.

Have to say the AA seem to be pretty on the ball these days.

The last time I needed them, a month or so ago, I rang them from the side of the M4 and said that my turbos had gone and that I needed a flatbed lorry to tow me home. The AA duly sent out a flat bed and towed me - no quibbles, no "we need to look first", no "response van", just the flatbed and a lift home. Also, they were so busy that night that they drafted in separate companies to pick up all the broken down cars.

I've never been with the RAC or Green Flag or anything else, so have no comments about those, but the AA seem to be doing pretty well by me.

:)

Ive had nothing but good experience with the AA.

Just 4 weeks after picking up my Z, the radiator end caps broke their seal, and started steaming.

AA kept me up to date with Txt and phone calls of where the breakdown truck was. The bloke who arrived called for a flatbed (Which arrived at Jeffs about 0:15am - Cheers Jeff :) )

V good customer service these days.

Must be luck of the draw.

I am with the AA and had to use them twice. Both occasions were an absolute nightmare.

Never had to use the AA in my time with them, but during my GreenFlag period they were pretty quick and helpful on both occasions.

The AA and RAC sub contract other people out anyways. If they cant fix your car there and then it they subcontract a local firm or like Green Flag to go pick you up, that way it doesnt mess up their statistics.

£0.02-worth: last week the RAC were completely cr*p and took 4 hours to get me home (about 8 miles). It would have been quicker for me to get a taxi home, look up a recovery company and book it.

Instead, I waited at the side of the road - and waited and waited and waited. I was passed by 2 AA vans!

The RAC refused to send a patrol (who could have helped me tape up the bodywork and get home) and insisted on arranging for a central London contractor to come out to Windsor to do a recover of 8 miles. Gits.

So I will deffo be looking at new cover come renewal time.

Cheers - Gio

PS haven't voted as there isn't one for yes I'm interested in a club scheme whoever it is with!

Can you get a deal with the RAC? coz i'm with them now and never had a problem with then in the last two years!

Hi Ajay,

I'm currently with the AA under another group diso**** but I'll happily transfer across to 300ZX forum group forum if it helps the figures.

konrad

what discount are you going to get? 10 to 15 % if you are lucky, people can get that by going elsewhere, lets just get decent car insurance first. any of the fords owners remember who the rs owners club used to get group insurance with? i cant remember, may be worth asking on their forum
