Blew a turbo on Saturday night whilst cruising down the M4...marvellous amounts of white smoke..

Am looking for advice on which turbos to purchase now.

Car's been chipped, running 385bhp, 1 bar boost so need turbos that can cope with this and go beyond.

Thanks.

All depends on how much you want to spend, stock blowers can cope with that power no problemo;),you just need to change to 360 thrusts to make them last longer;)

Well, as soon as I get the money for my engine off the old Zed, I can work it out better, but am just looking to see what options I have open to me at the moment. :)

I think I can shed some light ajay as I am due to get my car back either tuesday or wednesday after a 4month long nightmare!!!

My advice is to buy the turbos from either the garage who are going to fit them or from someone like Smithy, who supplied my new turbos via turbo technics, that way, if anything goes wrong, then you always have someone to fall back on.

In my case, two new turbos fitted (which is my advice to you if you can afford it, as its the labour that costs the money to fit, the 3009zx is the worst turbo car to work on apparently), and then one failed and I had Smithy to fall back on for help, if he wasnt involved, or I had bought the turbos from America, then it would have been a nightmare, what with timescales etc etc.......

All in all, take advice off the people off this board, they've been there and know how much of a nightmare things can be if they dont go to plan.....

Hope this helps....:)

s**t thats bad luck, it werent that long ago that you got the turbos replaced under warranty was it? would it be worth going back to the garage that did the work or warranty holdings as surely even if you ragged your car everyday the turbos shouldnt blow in such a short space of time.

Marks caes was a little tricky, everything pointed to the failure of one turbo the excat same as his old original one, the garage though helpful claimed that all was correct when fitting the new ones, despite the same side turbo and symtoms, Turbo Dynamics who supply the Hybrids i sell, tested everything and confirmed along with an inspection report, to show that turbo failure was not due to the turbo itself, unfortunately no one accepted full 100% responsibility, so i sorted it at my own expense, cos i am the supplier, Mark incurred no extra expense at all, which as it should be, so Moral of the story is, buy from a company or someone, who you know will back you up, cos the Zed is one engine that Turbo suppliers will never accept liability for if something goes wrong, so it's down to who took yer cash, which thankfully out of nearly 30 times, only once have i shit meself :D

Good luck Mark

cheers

smithy

Cheers Smithy, should either have the carback today or tomorrow and cant friggin' wait!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for all your help..........you've been a legend....;)

Steady Eddy - unfortunately this is a different car - the Red one had the turbos replaced under warranty but that car is no more. :)

This one had new turbos 20K miles ago so quite why they've gone so soon, I don't know....

Cheers for the sites. :)

MAC 1, how much work is involved in changing to 360 thrust bearings? I say this because I am running at higher boost and dont want my turbos to give up. I have had the car for 3 months now and am still on a big learning curve so sorry if the question is stuped. I want to improve the safety of the engine before I start increasing the power any more, I will start with adding BOV's followed by replacing the superchip ecu with a JWT.

To fit the 360s requires the turbos removing, stripping, then rebuilding. Just wait till they blow then replace otherwise its a bit of a false economy really..
