1)My speedo has stopped working, cuts in some times, but generally dead as the proverbial, Any clues?

2) Was taking a friend of mine for a spin on that well known private race track "caterham bends". Due to the above prob have no idea what speed I was doing but estimate in the middle to high eighties and letting it rev higher than I would normally. On an overtak, I wasnt watching the rev counter but knew it was in the 5k range and the limiter cut in! WTF? It doesnt redline till 7k! I tried it again and the same happened. Is this usual? or can I raise the limiter?

Cheers

Jock,

The speedo problem could well be your speed sensor - mine suffers the same symptoms, but only when it's really cold ... it also makes the HICAS light come on, but I guess that's not going to aid the diagnosis in your case - don't think you have that on an NA, do you?

Perhaps someone else can suggest a further test?

As for the rev limiter - sounds odd ... mine certainly doesn't activate 'til 7200-ish, as expected. I believe that it's ECU controlled though, so I guess that a revised chip will help you shift the limit.

cheers JB,

Further investigation required on all fronts I think.

If you're stearing goes hard it's probably the speed sensor. If not it's probably a dodgy connection on your instrument cluster. Get it out, ( http://www.angelfire.com/geek/vg30dett/Cluster/Fix_Cluster.htm -might help) and carefully resolder all the joints, also on mine it looked like some joints were practically touching which shouldn't, so i seperated them aswell.

It definately help mine but it's still a bit dodgy. Might do it again to see if i missed anything.

Jock,

Do you have traction control fitted ?

I've had a rev limiter set itself for no reason before, about 4,500 rpm. Which is the same as my wet launch settings. I thought this was a little strange so I disconnected the TC and it disapeared. The box was playing up. Reinstalled the settings and all was well again.

no TC fitted, will have a look behind the dash.
