I've got the first geneation 300zx n/a1990 engine with the cronic valve train knock. I need to know weather it's better to replace my whole engine with a japaness import motor for 2,000 or rebuild my whole engine?

Does anyone know what the actual problem with the 1990 first run of the 300zx n/a car was?

I would have thought 2K for a new engine is cheaper and

trouble free and guaranteed

So, what exactly is the problem with the very early engines? My car is arriving on the 27th of this month and it's a very early NA. what should I watch out for?

If you go to FAQ on this site and then buying guide

It says NA`s engine no. below 777599 could be troublesome.

Thanks MarkTT, actually the car's VIN is GZ32 - 00003*

Is this a permanent problem or it can be fixed?

Thats a very early one - probably was an original demo/press car

Could be a collectors item - possibly

Now we're talking :D:D:D:D

the first gen has some valve train problems I'm not exactly sure what it is I just know it's got issues.

I have no idea what I'm doing I'm ****ED!

the very early cars had socalled "soft" valves and a fabrication fault in the head that has the CAS connected to it.

Not sure if there was a recall for it in Japan, but in the US there was..

It might be worthwhile to see if there has been a recall for this in Japan though, because if it is then Nissan UK should fix the problem for you free of cost ! (this might take a little effort and phonecalls to the Nissan headquarter though)

I had a similar problem with one of my cars (which is a US-spec) and Nissan Holland had to fix the problem for me for free, because in the US there was a recall for the problem I had.

oh...and 2000 for a "new" NA engine sounds a little steep though !!

You should be able to get one for less. (around 1000)

I might have a good '94 NA engine available soon if you're interested.

How can I diagnose soft valves are there any dead givaways?

Here are some photos to help anyone who is thinking of removing their TT Manual Z engine, stripping it and rebuilding it.

Strip & Rebuild

Hope these couple of hundred photos helps someone at some point. I took them when my Father and I had to rebuild my lump.

Many regards

Robert.
