I recommend Andy Duff

just contact him via the forum

I'd rather be safe than sorry

VOTE DUFF!

He did my cambelt, and it hasn't blown up yet ;)

Tim

Yay Duff for president!!! :D

I got my car back from Zedworld today. Yes - on a Sunday.

Top quality work for me, as usual.

Cos

zedworld is the closest. Jeff provides an excellent service. I am sure Duff is excelent too but it would be just as good an convenient at Zedworld. Had my service and cambelt done in dec. car is running superb.

What on earth is going on?????????

People are telling me to go to Duff,Yet I have had mail telling me to stay clear!

Is this true, that he fitted his own cambelt and it came off because a bolt sheared?

He charged a guy to fit a clutch and when he had finished the car would not start so he left it WTF???

He fitted a Blitz exhaust it was not even hung on the rubbers???

Anyway who is Duff?

Now I am confussed!!!!!!!!!!!

The PLOT thickens, sit back and watch the Fireworks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rodney,

I have no direct experience of Andy`s work but as far as I know from his technical answer`s to questions here and good reports made to me by other members he is more than capable of getting the job done well and his unfortunate problem with his own belt was a one off caused I think by when the engine or head was in storage awaiting work so not really relavant here.

Distance may be a concideration but feeling happy with who works on your zed is very important and will influence your decision

Not too sure of the " rather be safe than sorry" comments made by others, should not worry to much about that though.

There are a couple of other places like GPS and SE both of which are capable of doing the work you require so you do have some options there.

Hope that helps.

Jeff TT @ Zedworld

THIS PLACE IS PATHETIC!!!

We must all be over 17 to own a Zed (sorry Clarkey) but why must we all behave like children?

My experiences of Andy Duff's work have been excellent and his knowledge of the Zed and mechanics in general never fails to amaze me, and I'm speaking as a 30 something with 3 restorations and several 'special' conversions under my belt.

As for Jeff's work, I have no personal experiance to draw on, for this I rely on other peoples feed back, but all my dealings with Jeff, on a non Zed related basis, have been nothing but ammacable and pleasant.

GROW UP PEOPLE THIS IS NOT KINDERGARTEN! Mud slinging is just childish. Care to share who sent the email Rodney, if they're that blatent I'm sure thay won't mind having their email published here.

Rodney, as Jeff has said. He, Andy Duff, SE and GPS are all places that you can get the work you described done, it really all depends on where you are, how long you want to wait and how much you want to pay.

Rodney,

That is the bottom line, depends where you are and how far you want to travel.

Jeff had done all the work on my Z (now owned by Keith S) and I never had a single problem with what he did he even went above and beyond the call of duty sometimes, top bloke, top jobs.

Andy Duff fitted an exhaust for me, it was cold and it took more than a few hours due to sheared bolts and it was an all round pig of a job!! The job he did was great!! top bloke, top job.

As for GPS and SE, I have no idea!! I have never used either but only heard good things about them both, the only problem with SE is lead times and that's it.

Don't listen to the gripes, moaning and mud slinging, make up your own mind.

Matty.

Well said Tim, tis a shame a simple question as to "where can i go" results in a bit of secret mud slinging.

Rodney just contact all 4 named above get a feel for who seems to know their stuff and offers you a price YOUR happy with then consider the distance, simple as that. Have not used Duffers me self though i intend too in the next couple of months regardless of what you've been told, go for it ;)

cheers

Here Here ...

WTF is wrong with people ... snidey e-mails undermining members ... we're supposed to be a group of "like-minded" enthusiasts, not playground cliques ....

I vote with Tim ... expose the e-mailer ... this really is shoddy behaviour.

I've no direct experience of work done by either party, but spend a bit of time trawling through this site (with the sh!t filter on), and you'll see that both protagonists are immensely knowledgeable about these cars, and more than capable of carrying out this sort of work.

Personally, this sort of rubbish gets me down .. and I suspect all of the "genuine" members on here ... it is PATHETIC.

JB.

Agreed - let's keep this out of "Fight Club" !

Excellent, I now know who this was - cheerZ MATE

I know who sent that e-mail slagging duff off and some of you are going to be left with egg on your face when you find out how scheming some people can be. You will find out as it always comes to light in the end. And I see Jeff doesnt understand the "Safe than sorry" comment made by Emero...well I would guess it has something to do with her accident and Jeff leaving the forum under a cloud of smoke, surely everyones memory cant be that bad.

Of course, if what has been said really WAS in that email, then DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER could well be involved....

A freak accident, and could have happened to anyone - and would have happened no matter who had done the cambelt. Hell - lets not forget that he'd just done a complete rebuild on said same engine, and it's still running fine (and bl**dy rapid, too). By the look of it, a previous owner/garage has had the engine apart in the past, before Andy(Duff) took ownership, and overtightened the nut on the end of the stud that the upper idler runs on. It was a matter of time before it sheared, as the metal had already been stressed beyond it's fatigue point. Pure bad luck.

The customer wanted the car back, the customer got the car back. IMHO (having discussed this at length with Andy) the problem wasn't the clutch, or the flywheel, or the fitting. It was the fact that it was a TT engine, with an NA gearbox & starter assembly on it. They look almost identical, bar the fact that the NA bellhousing is slightly shorter, making the starter sit too close for the TT ring gear. Some spacers sorted the problem.

Had the car not been an Auto->Manual conversion (with the wrong gearbox), and had the customer had the option of leaving the car with Andy (like you would with a garage), it would have been fixed, by Andy.

More hearsay and rumour than fact, I believe, and anyway, if I recall, the job was done for a few cans of Stella..

Andy Duff is the ONLY person on this forum other than myself who I'll ever trust to touch my car.

Right now, two of mine are with him - the engine being rebuilt and dropped into the other.

Actually, we started it a couple of weeks ago, and we nearly had the whole job done in a week (a week!). We didn't get it done because the turbo supplier had sent us two passenger side turbo's (and no, you can't tell when they're in the box) - I have never seen anyone feel so bad, for something that wasn't his fault!

End result? I'm driving his second car until he's finished my car for me.

Top bloke? I think so.

Aaron (now going back into retirement)

Andy is now ordering me a cambelt and assorted bits for me and a my zed is having a full service

I live in Warwick and I would rather travel to Preston to get this done than go locally.

I would also recommend GPS in Leigh as would a lot of other people. They go out of their way to help too.

When I said better to be safe than sorry I meant safety is of prime importance, especially since i use my zed daily for the school run.

I have not felt safe driving my zed for months, so where's the pleasure in that???

At the end of the day, I have tried to get my zed fixed, been very amicable and patient, I don't like having the mickey taken out of me.

Honourable dealings especially on this forum are what I expect nothing more nothing less. If i can't trust the people here it is a sorry state we are all in.

WTF! How did this become a personal hit against me again FFS!

I posted a completely unbiased reply and bang the usual suspects are at it again ...Paulg etc where do you get off?

Sadley the original question has been lost which is a pitfall the tech questions end up in.

Jeff TT

Found this lurking on one of my sites...

Cambelt Pics

It wasn't Easter so i don't know why Andy had his head shaved like a Kinder Egg!:p

Tim :D

There you go guyZ - your first FAQ :D LMAO

Well thanks for all your help guys,I will now be phoning Jeff at Z World for the work.
