Why pay big money for Plugs get a set of NGK BCR8ES or BCR7ES.

depends on your boost setting they retail for £1.52 + Vat.

they work fine and no power loss.

We use them in our 8ltr big block chevy V8 600 BHP (more with NOS) 280ZX Drag car(8.49 at 168mph) as well as in my 300zx 18psi boost. been using this plug forever.

So if the mechanic tells you this is Crap then you can see for your self at the pod or Avon park.

the triple electrobe plugs and split fire type plugs are no better than the above we have tried them on the track and found NO power Difference.they are only good if you do not service your car every 10,000miles. mines done every 6000.

jap 300zx owned last 6 years. 12.96 1/4 mile 114 mph!

all mods done by me at a quarter of the cost.

no body kit! no high spoiler to slow it down!

Dont come crying to us when they snap off and bugger your engine!!;)

THEY ARE MADE THE SAME WAY AS ALL OTHER PLUGS M8!

NEVER HAD A BROKEN ONE ON MINE OR ANY OTHER 300ZX

OH AND I HAVE BUILT A LOT OF Z32 ENGINES.

WE USED TO RACE EM!

SO IF YOU WANT TO PAY £8 PLUS FOR PLUGS DO IT.

AND I DONT SELL PLUGS!

SOME PEOPLE KNOW THROUGH EXPERIENCE, SOME JUST LISTEN TO OTHERS WHO CLAIM THEY KNOW.

Why spend out £30 for 5 litres of Mobil1,

Use Mazola1 for £1.89 for 10 litres from Tescos, we all know its

the same stuff!

And with the £28.11 you have saved, you can buy half a tank of petrol, or a full tank of lighter fluid, the same stuff again!

The plugs for my petrol lawnmower cost even less, might give them a try, there made the same way you know

MOTOR IS A GOOD ONE 34,000 MILES

REMOVED CATS.

REMOVED PRE CAT.

RE BIULT EXHAUST. (BOX'S £60) SOUNDS AWSOME

REMOVE AIR CON (ROOF'S OFF IN SUMMER ANYWAY).

REMOVED VISCUS FAN AND REPLACED WITH ELECTRIC ONE.

MADE OUR OWN AIR FILTER ( THIS WAS A PERFORMANCE ONE WE ADDAPTED GAVE US SAME BHP GAIN AS K&N CLAIM FOR JUST £28).

BETTER AIR FLOW TO FILTER WAS ACHIEVED BY CUTTING OUT SOME PLASTIC BITS.

TWO BLEED VALVES FROM FORGE MOTOR SPORT £30 (18 PSI BOOST RETARDED IGNITION) MOST POWER CAME FROM THE BOOST.

AND A LOT OF PLAYING

DYNO TESTED LAST YEAR, ON LOCAL ROLLING ROAD. MINE WAS 422BHP . BUT ROLLING ROAD COULD BE OUT ABIT SO I ESTIMATE MORE LIKE 380 400BHP. WHICH WOULD BE MORE LIKE IT AS THE 1/4 MILE TIME PUTS IT ABOUT 390BHP. POWER ,WIEGHT, TIME AND ALL THAT.

I HAVE A LOT OF TOOLS YOU WILL NEED EM TO DO THE WORK.

TRIED MORE BOOST 21PSI BUT MELTED NO.2 PISTON. NEVER MIND I FIXED IT, 18PSI IS THE LIMIT ON THE EDGE, 14PSI IS SAFE.

NO ECU UPGRADE

WELL IF YOU ALL THINK THIS IS CRAP THEN TURN UP AT THE DRAG TRACK, WE RUN 12.1 COMPRESSION ON A V8 THAT REVS TO 8000 RPM WITH 300BHP OF NOS, USING 20/50 KENDLE OIL AT £7.99 CHANGED OFTEN. RACE TEAMS KNOW THE HYPE FROM THE CRAP BEEN THERE BOUGHT THE T SHIRT.

JOIN THE Z-CLUB TURN UP AT THE Z DRAG MEETINGS AND LETS SEE HOW YOUR £1000+ PERFORMANCE KITS HOLD UPTO MY £200 STUFF, SEE IF YOU BEAT THE 12.96.........

what state was cylinder 2's plug in after it melted ?

You cant just come on here and post that without a PROPER explanation! For people to trust your judgement and change from platinums to coppers is a big step and if you ask anyone in a garage they will say dont do it - so make your case and persuade us why - bearing in mind the cost is of no importance. We want to know if they stand up to day in day out running - change intervals, durability etc.

Its a lot to trust a £6000 motor for saving a few quid on plugs.

No-one likes a smart ar5e.

So you've got some healthy horses for not much money. well done, just don't ram it down our throat mate.

Not everyone has the time, space or knowledge to do the same as you.........and has to pay some of their hard earnt money for someone else to do it for them, whats your aim here-to take the piss out of them?

At the end of the day in all walks of life you get what you pay for!!

Ok in some instances you may be paying a little more because of the name but with that you are also buying the quality and reliability that inheritly goes with that name. Generally you wont go far wrong if you buy the best you can afford of everything IMHO

You're pretty handy with that caps lock key too. :D

So can someone actually tell me the difference between the NGK plugs and the 11B's I bought form Courtesy Nissan last week ?

This may help .... but it doesn't explain everything !

Impressive stuff - Hizus

You say with stock ecu as well - didnt you consider pukka fuelling at those big boosts or do you have a fuelling trick as well?

From what I've read and seen here you are asking for melted pistons anyway much above 12psi on stock fuelling. Of course you retard as well but doesnt that cancel out some of the gains?

.. and you only mentioned cheap plugs!

Ok this was not intended to be a anything more than a little advice,

we are always at the drag meets talk to me and if i have the car will show you what has been done and how easy it realy is,just time( i realise that alot of people are not that good working on cars unfortunatly these are the people the work shops prey on, all work shops). but there are a lot of Z owners who do and we can help the ones who are not.

when the piston melted on my Z the plug was fine no melted tip.

these plugs are beefed up copper core plugs ( they are ok on 300bhp of nitrous let alone the 600bhp of the engine).

I was actualy racing the Z at avon park when I blew it, it was also using C12 racing fuel so i did push it some what to distruction.

2001 season we used the same plug in our turbo small block chevy engine.(450bhp)

the heat setting range is right for the Z, 7 or 8's.

most work done on my Z was simple just removing the normal power sapping objects. as i said. (the air con can be disabled by removing the relay.(also better fuel economy)

yes you need a welder and good axle stands to make the exhaust. (i had no special tools other than this). the cats were just smashed out.

If you read up on the Z from around the world then you will see 14 psi of boost is ok.( thats what i use day to day)

I dont have the money to spend on this car, most goes on the kids these days, so i do all the work and testing my self.

Just remember most performance shops are after one thing your money.(the same for our racing parts)

N/A cars have chips fitted most of the bhp is ganed by advancing the timing and moving the rev limit higher.

I used to own a 911 turbo, the plugs for this car from porsche cost £90 for six, the same plug from a local motor factors cost me £20, just because it cost the earth dont mean they are any better.(they just make more money)

As i said the original plugs fitted to the ZX are for long service intervals.

If you still want to use the original plugs go to a motor factors to buy them they sell for about £8.00. not the £14 i was quoted from nissan.

i agree with some of what you're saying ie performance related to plugs. the main purpose of plat tip plugs is extended plug life, so you dont need to replace so often.

BUT!! - as plugs wear you will loose power, copper plugs wear much quicker than plat, so you will be loosing power sooner as the electrodes wear.

plat tipped plugs are better for turbo cars running esp running high boost as they are less prone to damage.

so maybe the performance is the same but if safety of you're engine is important to you then use plat.

also cost: £1.52 for a plug which lasts 10k miles. plat plugs last 60k miles so 6x £1.52 = £9.12. like you say you can get plat plugs for aroun £8 ea so it also works out more expensive in the long run

all IMO IME etc etc :D

Can you show us a time slip from Santapod of that run?

Copper pulgs work a treat in the way that NOS burns on the plug thats about the only reason copper plugs are use don 300s, but you change them more often than not.

No ecu - 18psi stock injectors? lol and your engine makes 400bhp ? is that a flywheel figure? (you know the ones where everyone ups the drivtrain loss estimate by about 30% :D)

Got any pics ect of the one you raced? the 300? should be cool.

I can see that you have access to a lot of facilities to do this work to your Z, but if you talk to most people on here I think they would say that saving £40 on plugs would be a false economy!

The potential negatives from getting the wrong plugs are in the worst case scenario, an engine rebuild which I see you have had done!

Boosting your sotck turbos to beyond 15psi, severley limits the life of the turbo and pressures above 15 do not give any great gain in performance due to too much heat and turbulence!

To someone in your position a turbo rebuild would be easy, but to the many people on here it could be financially and mechanically beyond them!

I boost the performance of my Z without spending a penny - I simply take the toolkit, spare wheel and rear seats out FFS :D :D

OH God here we go again :D:D:rolleyes:

Having succumbed to the Nelson theory of being as skinny as possible to go forward i weighed my new seats against my old seats, weight saving of around 35 kgs :D i bet copper plugs weigh more than Platinum ones :D

Worthwhile. Well done !;) :D

Ah yes - but if you'd spent a penny as well, you might have saved a kilo or so depending on how much lager you were syphoning off at the time :)
