would 20" with 225/35 profile tires fit a 300zx? if so would the performance/handling/brakes be badly afectted? the rims in question are mania vernmot chrome, iv seen a nova, 206 cc, 106 and other small cars running 19"s so why not 20s on a Z?

Well NO and no it wont work and yes youd lose loads of ride qualty, and the suspension would not travel properly, and 225 tyres? thats to small for the rear. And errm no lol.

 

18s are about as large as you should go considering the wheels were 16 stock, rule of thumb is never to go over two sizes more than stock.

I don't mean to be cruel but really, a £3K Zed and £1.5K worth of tyres and rims and another £1K insurance!

 

ISYSS, A word of serious advise, if you have £3K to buy a car and some money put aside to mod it, I would put it all into one pot and buy the best car you can in the first place. I know people on here who have bought cars and have subsequently spent thousands just trying to get them sorted to run right. I would say that a budget of £5.5K will get you a good, honest and reliable Zed, less than that and you are asking for trouble IMHO.

You would need something like 8.5" rims with 255/25/20 front, 10" rims with 285/25/20 rears and you would need a lot of work doing to get them on the car.

 

I think you'll find the tyres hard to get hold of and even from a specialist online discount supplier you won't get much change from £1500 for tyres alone.

When you only get about 6000 miles out of 'em that's probably £3000 a year if you are doing an average mileage!

That's as much as your £3K Z cost you to buy! :D :D :D

 

A VERY cheap set of 20" wheels will be over £1K too I would think.

I'd get a NICE set of 18" ones and much more reasonable tyres.

Go above 18" and the tyre prices go through the roof.

 

Another advantage is you won't look like one of the Nova boys with wheels far too big for the car just so you can say you've got 20's! ;)

Cheap set of 18s with Z fitment will be £1k+, surely you looking at well over £2.5k for 20s. remember that the Z isn't a common fitment due to caliper size.

well actually i already have rims which are £1870 new with tires from wheel-mania (paid 1k one off purchase not from wheel-mania) the rims are vermont chromes at http://www.wheelmania.co.uk/pages/home.htm .They orginally were for a 1990 n/a 300zx which i had before it was completly written off by some scum thief 2 months ago. I paid around 3K for my Z which had no probs apart from needing a new alternator and a slight problem with the master brake cylinder at the start from when i bought it, i had it for almost 7 months with no probs.

but anyway i dont know who the heck is ripping you off for the price of rims your quoting (but this obvously depends on the make/type of rim/tyre).

All on taste and who.

 

I look at wheels, 17's will do me cos I dont want to compromise ride and performance for looks, and the only ones I want cost over £1500 for 4. Every set I like are just expensive. :(

Even Lambos don't have 20" rims - think they're 18".

I've got 51" rims on the back and they only rub slightly on potholes..although Kwik Fit have trouble when I get a puncture!:D
