Briefly, want to get a Z - twin turbo - and I need to know the mpg from people who actually drive the car. This has no doubt been asked before but I searched the archives and there were too many matches for me to process - so thought I'd just ask.

I do about 120 miles per day, all motorway, as opposed to short sharp journeys.

I searched the archive posts and saw people claiming 25-34 mpg - for a 3.0 TT I find anything around 30 and over difficult to swallow. I'm OK cash-wise and I can afford a low-mpg car (otherwise I wouldn't go for a Z :D) but need to keep a reasonable head on. I won't get a Z if it runs lower than 22-ish mpg (I'll switch jobs instead ;) )

I get

16-18 round town,

25 motorway doing 80ish

28 motorway doing 70ish

Never tied to stay at 60mph to see what MPG I get. I get tempted to floor it too easliy.

Stuart

I do crappy, annoying little journeys, everyday, all week, which is why I'm getting a 2nd car. On those short journeys, £10 will get me 26-28 miles!! But with HKS BOV's and a loud exhaust, I can't help flooring it most of the time!

The car = '91 Jap Import TT Auto

The journey = Hayes by Pass - Target Roundabout - A40 to Hangar Lane (about 12km - Mon to Fri) Plus a bit of dicking around at the weekend.

It takes about 55 Litres from the E mark to the F mark and I get 275KM for that on Optimax.

Mind you, my one is Silver as well as being an auto, so it's obviously got a lot more performance than some of the others in different colours.:D

I get about 300-330km per 55l fill of 10 mile long mixed journeys (bit of around town, onto the motorway for 7 miles, then back into town)..

Works out to.. not a lot mpg! 18mpg or so is average with mostly real short town journeys. On a motorway run I've seen 28mpg..

I concur with Stuart except I never reached 28. Best ever was 26 on long motorway trips. Worst 15 icy weather and stop start short journeys.

Mostly around 19!

Here is about 37,000 miles worth of mostly going to work (15 miles each way, country roads) and the odd long blast. Even includes fuel types and times when mods/repairs were made. You can guess the temp from the date and also the long journeys from the date (eg filling up twice in one day lol)

I had to fudge the file name in order to attach the file. It's in Excel, so just hack off the .txt extension.

Nice to know how much fuel tax I've paid anyway. 46% + 17.5% VAT right ?!?

Wow! Quick replies!!

Some responses are encouraging - SRRAE gets 25mpg at 80mph which is good stuff. However, AndyP's table (thanks) makes interesting reading - turns out he averages 21.7 mpg - just under 22! I guess that since I'm doing significantly longer journeys my mpg would be better.

Currently, with my 2.0 Golf I spend about £60 a week on petrol. From the responses above I reckon this will climb to about £100 a week (£20 a day) with a Z. 5 grand a year - yikes! At least it would be fun....

hi imm look at buying a 300zx ans i have found your site very usfull.

are there aney things that i should look out for when buying the car (im loking for a TT Man Uk Car)

thanks Chris

The last time I went on a long drive and took notice of when MPG I did with the fillup drive and fill up method, I got 27mpg, and that was driving round Wales to the rally, where it was 70mph motorway, and then lots of hard acceleration over taking slower cars, like escorts, focus's and subarus ;), along the twisty roads.

And all that includes a maximum speed of 115mph in de-wales.

All in all it really surprised me, as most of my journies are usually small ones where I get about 16mpg.

Interesting that I noticed your MPG went up after you got new O2 sensors, and it wasnt for just 1 or 2 trips, everything after the sensors has a higer MPG.

Ok. so I've read all your replies above, and would agree with the mileages that you discuss - low teens parked in rush hour climbing to mid 20's on an unrestricted run.

BUT YOU HAVE ALL MISSED THE POINT!!!

What's the weather like on your planet? Talking about discussing 70mph fuel consumption? Do you seriously expect anybody who has ever owned one of these to beleive that you've ever checked it - rubbish. First whiff of an open road and you're off - otherwise why have one?

The point is that once you get to 70mph cruises the fuel consumption does not go down like an ordinary car. Disclaimer - I have never driven in excess of 70mph in the UK (or anywhere else whatsoever), and the opinion that I offer from here on in is all guesswork!

I.e. the difference in fuel consumption between 80mph cruise and 120mph cruise is negligable - you'll still be seeing mid 20's. Having just fought a terrible (terrible terrible) Mondeo to the Alps and back at those sort of speeds (disclaimer 2 - I'm obvioulsy lying about the speeds here too - that would have been illegal in an EU country - I have never done that either!) the high speed fuel consumption is considerably better than that of most 'conventional' economonsters. The added advantages of course being that in the Nissan, you can still hear the stereo, steer, and stop (not so in a Mondeo (terrible terrible - aargh)....

15mpg, and that was on a tank of Optimax doing sustained 120 - 145 (kph :D) mostly on the motorways, generally driving like a complete and utter tit over the weekend.

I don't condone or attempt to justify it.

Completely standard UK manwell car, black naturally :D

Mike

mines normally good, 22 to 26mpg, butdoing only short journies in the cold i managed a record 10.72mpg which was shite:mad:

uhmmm.... :D :D :D

"Best" I've had out of my Zed is 7mpg....but then I was hooning it all over the place at *cough* perhaps a shade over 70mph.. :D

Otherwise she's pretty good...if I can remember that far back...usually get between 240 and 300 miles per tank of (I think) about 55 litres....

Soon refresh my memory after I pick her up tonight!!! :D :D :D

240 - 300 Miles!!!!!

I don't get that even if I leave it on the drive!

Mike

MY automatic does about 20MPG (mix of round twon and motorway) - also sounds like a good average for everyone. Less if you boot it/tootle round town, more if u mainly do motorway.

So newhere between 15 and 30, although getting close to 30 is doubtful to me. (more like 25?).

As has been stated, you don't by this kind of car for economy, but you need to be able to afford to run the damn thing !;) :D

Could be! Checked out the insurance and that's OK; been reading up a bit about the Zed for a while now. Still in 'research mode' at the moment - hence the mpg question, but maybe start looking around soon. I think I can handle the extra petrol - as mentioned you don't buy a Z for the economy. I do long journeys and I wanna look good doing it :D - the old GTi just doesn't cut the mustard these days...

Softly, softly, catchee monkey..... and all that.

LOL. :D :D

Let me put it this way....my Zed is *SO* economical that one tank of petrol has thus far lasted me...ooh...6 months! ;) *AND* she's done at least 400 miles in that time.

DISCLAIMER : Ok, not under her own power, but nevertheless.... ;) ;)

Well I doubt it will improve your spelling! :D

well i would have thought we'd be asking you that since you have the NOS!!

Anyhow, I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference unless you've also changed the amount of fuel being injected. As far as I know the extra power comes from burning up the NOS, not extra fuel.

Heh heh heh

Pretty close to my £20 of Optimax to do 48 miles! :p

Though not all of that was at the speed limit, or infact anywhere near it :p

I have since found that the Zed is "fairly" good for a performance car if you poodle along at a sensible (read as creeping) pace.

But what's the point in owning a performance car if you don't unleash it occasionally ;)

£20 will get me about 100 miles. So dont know whats up with yours.

I am like you. Every time I go out in my Z, where I can legaly, I love to floor it. Never round town, always on the faster roads where I can.

I cant understand people who dont like taking thier car drag racing cos it damages the car and it will blow up. I do something like that at least once a week. True I dont go 100mph but I floor it 0-80 regularly

Stuart

That £20 involved *ahem* a fast run on the M4.

The next £20 lasted for 90 miles so that was a bit better :)
