The other evening, some daft twunt managed to hit my Z4.... It was parked in my office parking space - this idiot was being chased by the police and managed to scrape the near side front end, when he pulled over😪

The police didn't do much, they just made him leave a note - which the driver then removed after the police left the scene. He even had the balls to return and try to polish out the damage he caused!!!

Luckily I have CCTV at work, so I captured the whole thing on camera. And a very helpful witness saw it happen, he waited for me to come out of work to tell me - otherwise I might have driven home without realising.

The idiot who hit my car had a change of heart the next day and posted his contact info though our letterbox - he offered to pay for the damage, to avoid going through his insurance. Until, that is, I told him the car was being repaired at BMW - and they insisted on replacing the front bumper, because "it would never look the same" if they attempted a repair. Budget about £2500... 😉

My local BMW dealer has been brilliant - they got everything agreed with the third party's insurers, all I had to do was drop off my car and pick up the loan vehicle. No excess or charges to pay, and minimal inconvenience to me.

The courtesy car isn't bad - albeit a little underpowered, despite having 198 BHP. Then it's only a 184 BPH 1.6 with a 14 BHP hybrid set up; the economy is crap too, it barely manages 30mpg on a 200 mile round trip to Bath yesterday... My 3.0 turbo Z4 would have achieved at least 34 on the same journey!

IMO, these little, downsized, electrified motors are not all they're cracked up to be - if a bigger, more powerful engines are more efficient. On longer journeys anyway 😉

Did BMW really give you a merc as a courtesy car?!

Not exactly.... 😉

BMW uses an accident management company, which claims everything from the at-fault party - so they didn't have full control as to what I was given. The dealership simply helped with the logistics, the car hire company had no BMWs available, so I had the choice of this or an Audi A5. And I could not bring myself to become an Audi driver, even for a week or so LOL 😄

I think I would have taken the A5, they look a look better than that merc in my humble, blind opinion! 😅

I would imagine so Steve - you mentioned that before - it's probably only the larger engines that are still MB's own.

.....And upon doing some research, only the small diesel engine C-classes (c180d and c200d) have the Renault engine.

The C200 petrol has a Mercedes engine (code m264), coupled to their own 9G-tronic auto box!
