Found some old pictures of when I detailed and upgraded my engine bay.

Having a rummage around earlier through a multitude of car photos, I came across the work I did to my Z when I replaced the entire engine harness, starter/earthing harness, new NISMO 740s and had everything else aqua-blasted and coated, shot blasted and powder coated, replated and a LOT of new genuine stuff, plus enlarged throttles. Essentially the top half of the engine bay incl. rocker covers, all new gaskets yada yada.

The harness(es) was (were) OEM as only OEM will do, I opted for a later one so as to use later style CAS and PTU and without having to de-pin and re-pin for newer connectors for the injectors. Complete plug and play solution and I can tell you how much a new OEM harness and injectors did to make the car run even better than it did before - silky smooth and responsive. New OEM starter motor too - reliability was good with that car, but this made it bomb proof. Also opted for a new fan and new fan clutch, new FPR and fuel damper, some lovely rare new old-stock parts, such as genuine intake and boost hoses, the starter/earth harness which also went NLA, new clutch booster hose which I actually brought back from Japan with me. At the time it also had a full service, all new belts, water pump, oil, plugs, radiator.

For those of you doing this sort of thing yourself, it is hard work, but it's so rewarding. It's a hard engine bay to look after as it all exposed and hard to reach for cleaning, but with all the new parts as well as the new coatings, it ran unbelievably well. Don't waste your time trying to repair old crusty harnesses, it really is a fool's errand.

Naturally, all of the larger jobs were done by PowerZed.

I can remember you doing this. There was much jealousy.

I cannot begin to describe how much I hate these clips. Absolute **** of a job to get some of them on/off on the fuel lines.

True, but once they're in, they're on. Not shitty hose clamps to vibrate lose.

Agreed - I replaced mine with these a couple of years ago.... Really made a difference when starting from cold, in colder weather - fuel smell totally eliminated ?

I did the fuel lines at the same time, along with a new pressure regulator etc!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yup, the biggest cause of 300zxs catching on fire are hose clamps vibrating lose over time/via heat cycling and then fuel  finding its way onto hot surfaces.

When I first got my Z, I had no idea about these coming loose until it started reeking of fuel. Thankfully the guys on the club pointed me straight to this being the cause, and advised the swap to the newer style clamps.

Later that year Jimmer swapped them over and no more worrying about engine fires since!

I’ve seen your original post of this engine bay refresh before quite a few times and drooled over the pics ?.

Its on my to do list for next year. I was thinking of doing over winter but after this weeks drop in temps, I’ve quickly scrapped that idea!

Can’t wait to get it looking this good.
