Hi all,

My car is (hopefully) being converted to a manual this winter, along with a few extra bits. However Im really struggling to find all the bits I need. A couple of ebay sellers I have been in contact with are selling conversion kits for £2500. I messaged them to see what they would sell the kits to me minus the gearbox and propshaft (I have sourced these already) and one refused and the other said £1500.

£1500 is a lot of money for a bunch of old rusted parts, so I went on Z1 to look at their conversion deal. Without the gearbox and what-not, theirs comes to $1400, already cheaper than the greedy ebay sellers over here as thats $1400 for brand new clean parts, but there is a catch: it is currently unavailable. I have messaged them to see whats happening, but Im not having much faith.

I have even been looking around for a tatty manual car to use as a donor, but the cheapest I can find is a tatty red one in Wales for £4500. Gone are the days of cheap donors cars...

So, I am looking for help. I need to beg, borrow (permanently), buy and steal (preferably not of course!) all the bits I need for a conversion. Please can you please raid your garages, lock-ups, cupboards and brains for the knowledge of any good quality parts you know would be sold to me (for the right price ofcourse!)

Here is my list of items I need for a conversion:

  • Gearbox = sourced
  • TT flywheel = sourced
  • Flywheel bolts
  • Pressure plate bolts & washers
  • transmission plates
  • Propshaft = sourced
  • Clutch booster, lines and vacuum canisters
  • Clutch master
  • Clutch slave
  • Clutch lines
  • Clutch pedal
  • Brake pedal
  • Shifter and linkage
  • Shifter brace
  • 2x rubber shifter boots
  • Shifter boot
  • Shifter boot retainer
  • Shift bushes
  • Gearknob
  • Wiring harness

I believe that is everything I need, I compared various online sources to create this list, but if you see something that is missing, please let me know.

If you have any of these parts, I will get on my knees and pray to The Great God Zed that you say "here Tom, have it for free, ill pop it in the post"..... Failing that, money will exchange hands...

I'd have just bought the conversion kit to save all the grief. Most parts tend to travel together, a lot of parts that you could buy new are no longer available to purchase anymore.

Speak to the guys at Z1 to see if they have any used parts. They'll probably tell you the same though and some are RHD specific so no bueno there. Might be worth a shot. I'd honestly flog what you currently have and put it towards getting all the parts from a full conversion kit.

  • Gearbox = sourced
  • TT flywheel = sourced
  • Flywheel bolts
  • Pressure plate bolts & washers
  • transmission plates. Worst case make one from tin, easy enough.
  • Propshaft = sourced
  • Clutch booster, lines and vacuum canisters
  • Clutch master New pattern ones are cheap.
  • Clutch slave as above.
  • Clutch lines ZCentre one piece.
  • Clutch pedal Find an NA one, then you won’t need the booster etc.
  • Brake pedal Cut the Auto and fit a new pad.
  • Shifter and linkage
  • Shifter brace
  • 2x rubber shifter boots
  • Shifter boot
  • Shifter boot retainer
  • Shift bushes
  • Gearknob
  • Wiring harness Why?

All your small things, bolts, clutch hose, plates, boot retainer i would just buy new off Z1 they would not be expensive. Gaiters there are good ones on ebay, I’ll see if i can find who I bought mine off.
I feel your pain trying to get everything its a nightmare and too many out there now wanting top dollar for a bunch of crap parts.
