Hi Guys & Girls,

The Porsche is up and running very nicely, so onto the 300.

I am looking to refurb the front and rear subframes, the whole underside, brake lines, PS lines & Fuel lines. Big Job.

Started by removing the rear bumper, looks like it has never been off before, then draining the petrol (still in the process).

Took some underside pictures of the task in hand, it’s not bad mostly surface rust. I will be cutting all rust out and welding it my

self, if I can build a complex Porsche engine and it hasn’t exploded after 300 miles, anything is worth a try.

Exhaust off and petrol tank out, those breather pipe were hard to reach ended up balancing the tank on axel stands and a piece of wood.

Managed to remove the Hicas & propshaft, I will be putting a one piece prop back in. I have axel stands under the car now was very hard to do on the ramps, now I can remove the rear subframe. Had to use plenty of WD on the bolts, undo and tighten a few times. Does help to have a large breaker bar and a impact gun.

Wont be back to car for a week and a half, so that’s it till then.

Flashbacks of dropping my rear subframe balancing it on a trolley jack ?

What's the plan for the underside? Strip and paint? I'm probably going to use the same Jotrun paint I used on the subframe and arms after attacking it all with a knotted wheel on a grinder.

I am lucky in having a cousin in the blasting & powder coating business, he will do all the metal bits. I am going to strip as much as poss underneath treat and paint, I will have to experiment different methods.

I’d avoid these, it’ll ruin the ride and your back. You use yours on the road so I’d put in poly bushes as a good compromise between stock and firm or Whiteline bushes maybe, just not solid ones.

Mine originally had stock worn bushes with subframe spacers which felt great, followed by Strongflex poly bushes which feel equally great and firm enough. It launches beautifully.

You using it as a track / Fast Road car? What about the rest of the suspension bushes?

I put Nismo in all mine but left the OEM subframe bushes in as they weren't split or leaking. Lee (Bird) put ES everywhere in his and he now hates the ride.

Following Alex’s post, for background, I should note that I put in Nismo everywhere else except the steering rack and diff. Also got BC coilovers.

I will have a look ? and see where to get bushes and spacers. The car will only be used on the road. I have ES everywhere else and MeisterR ZetaCRD Coilovers.

The rear was a bit harsh over the crap London roads and speed humps.

I've the ZetaCRD and have them on the softest damper setting and even with that it's on the limit of comfort for me. I'm likely to change to something with softer springs in the future.

Prior to putting the Nismo bushes in the car was all OEM but had subframe collars on the rear. The ride was awful on UK roads. Actual solid bushes would be harsh imo.

Me and Lee did a little research and Hardrace do a set of rubber subframe bushes they claim fit the 300zx. I don't know anyone who has them though.

Hi I did a bit more today, you would have never known these spot welds were rusting under the pristine undercoating.

Can be quite worrying when you see things like that. Turns out on one of my doors under where the pin striping usually goes, it was rusting. Had no sign at all from above the paint though.

Hi I haven’t done a lot recently, been looking after my mum who has Alzheimer’s, so car is at the back of the queue.

I did manage to do a little bit more, purchased some protective equipment.

The mess it makes is so bad.

What I really want is a Rust removing Laser.
