I have said that my Z just doesnt seem fast as it used to. How can I search for a boost leak?

People say listen but how can you hear a leak when the engine is running?

are you sure your not just getting used to it, we all think its not as fast as it was sometimes. Usually if the leak is that bad that the engine pulls air on idle it will make the idle speed fluctuate. If it only leaks under pressure then I suppose an aftermarket boost gauge is the next step to see if your getting what you think you are.

Sorry man, can`t hear a damnation thing over the exhausts.

Still, I know what you mean though. My zed seemed slower for a while there. then I was without it for a week and driving my old series 1 MR2. When I got back into the zed I nearly killed me and the wife by putting my foot down a bit. You get used to it you know.....used to the respect/fear thing. I operate by a general rule....if the smoke coming out of the back looks bad...there`s something up.

And no, I still do not have the large sized balls enough to floor my old thunder. Normal relations go something like this:

Right foot down = goodbye everbody (including a Lotus elise that was becoming tiresome).

Certainly hope you get it sorted and things though.....strange.. you somehow just know when your car is not right..... yeah?

I have an after market gauge. Its shows 9 PSI. But I have been told with induction exhaust and de cat I should be getting about 10psi.

The idle isnt the best. Its been OK for a while but sometimes it does the up down thing.

Also, then I press the acclerator from stop, the revs drop slightly before picking up. Whats that about?

I'm sure this is to do with the coolant temp sensor, can you hear your elec fan running constantly? if it is then you have faulty wiring to the sensor or a faulty sensor (knowing the Z it'll be the wiring!)

You look silly but I've done it and it does work ...

Get a long piece of vacuum hose and stick one end in your ear. Run the car and move the other end of the hose around the engine bay. It acts as an extremely directional mike and if you're pointing it at (and close to) a leak, you'll hear it.

And take a picture for the rest of us.

And this is the man who posted "Help there's nothing worng with me Z" just a few weeks ago :D.

My want to check the resistance with a multi meter. Paul C was telling me that although the connectors were clan, the section where the wire joins to the connectors was badly corroded on his, so he cut it off and re wired it. I'll be doing the same this weekend.

It could also be that after market boost guages are only accurate to plus or minus a pound or two!

Time it from 30 -70 somewhere quiet and if you get around 5.5-6 seconds all's well for stock manual level performance!

Also check what safety boost level you show by giving it a bit loud for a moment once she's started to warm up but still before safety boost is cancelled. Obviously dont go hard on a stone cold engine.
