Does anyone know what the OE tire from Nissan was on the 98+ Fairlady Z in Japan? I would presume it was the same tire for all 4 models, but I am asking for a Version R if it was different. I'm wondering the make/model of the tires was so I can research what year they may have gone out of production. Maybe they are still in production, who knows. but I'd like a zero mile set.

I have my BBS wheels off getting restored by BBS and I'd like to track down the correct tires. Don't plan to drive on them, just put them on for shows.

Cheers,

Alex

I'm guessing they were Goodyear and I know the size and rating was 225/50 R16  92V. I'm guessing maybe something like an Eagle LS2000 or whatever the OE equivalent was in 98/99/00

Anyone know for sure? Sure wish I could read Japanese to see if the brochure says it...

225/50/16 tyres are not difficult to come by - it's the OEM-UK spec rears that are going that way, as not many manufacturers produce 245/45/16 tyres nowadays.....

The OEM-spec tyres back in the early '90s were Michelin MXX - for UK cars at least. However tyre technology has moved on in leaps and bounds since then; so I'd recommend buying something contemporary. Even those fitted to a '99-spec are 20 year old tech these days...?

I appreciate that info, but I am looking for the original JDM tire that came on the car. The OE tire that they left the Nissan factory with for sale in the JDM in the last 3 years of production.

As stated, I have no intention on driving on them.

You could trawl the earliest posts of the club for posts relating to 99 spec - particularly for those who imported one in the early days. You might find an image or be able to PM them.

My 99 spec was imported in 2002 so there's a high chance it was on its original tyres (I don't have any images from then). So it could be possible to find the info that way.

245 are harder to find and more expensive and only the Porsche boxter uses that size now. Having said that, Toyo are a good soft compound make and £91 isn't bad for a tyre. Mine are still going after 5 years and 6000 miles, plenty left on them too!

Did a bit more research on this. The Japanese publication "I love Z32 Fairlady Z" has a section on the JDM "99" series.

One of the pictures has a wheel which when blown up has the manufactures logo in a blurred outline.  However I am

willing to bet that it is Bridgestone. Bridgestone is a Japanese company making top quality tyres so Nissan is likely to

use them to supply the JDM factory builds. You can make out the tread in the image so it shouldn't be to hard to come

up with the type.

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

That tread is very similar to Bridgestone Potenza RE040 which were on the 2000 model R34 GTRs.

Edit :

Bridgestone Potenza REO10 would be then I think.

Detective Andrew for the win!

Definitely - that close encounter of the blurred kind, definitely looks like "Bridgestone!"

And many high-spec JDM cars of that era would certainly have worn Bridgestones. Good find Andrew!!!
