So when i dismantled the bottom end a few months ago i mistakenly left the crank exposed.

Over the last few months its gained some surface oxidisation which easy came off with a cloth and wd40.

Will i need to replace this or get is professionally polished again ?

There is no pitting or scratches that i can feel although you can see discolouration in a few areas.

Hi Lee,The crank is very hard and i would be amazed if the corrosion has bitten in yet.Grab a roll of 180 grit emery and polish it at home then coat it with oil to stop it rusting again.

wouldn't think so as its just a polish to the areas that come into contact with the bearings

Not enough material would come off in my opinion.

I'm with Jimmer too - and also agree with you regarding no need to balance it. Just a mild polish, to smooth the bearing surfaces, no material would be removed at all.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
