Hi all, after trawling through 1000’s of wheels I’ve finally found the set that I want for my Z.

Now I’ll be totally honest, I have no idea about wheel sizes, compatibility and fit so I’m hoping someone can help.

The sizes are front 18x8.5 ET42 rear 18x9.5 ET40. Will these fit with the standard callipers or will they need spacers?

Thanks

You will also need to take into consideration the design of the spokes of the wheels regarding caliper clearance.

The picture below illustrates the point. Which wheels are you interested in?

Exactly what Andrew says.....!!

I learned a hard lesson last year, I bought a set of wheels which theoretically should have fitted. All the sizes and off-sets were in line with what me and many members had successfully installed on their Zeds before…. However as the spokes were dead flat, the front wheels still fouled the brake calipers; as in the first picture above.

I ended up buying a replacement pair of front wheels - but was fortunate that (1) the wheel shop sold them to me at cost plus delivery in view of previous custom; and (2) I was able to sell the first pair on Ebay to mitigate the outlay further.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

There’s a lot to take into consideration! I’m looking at buying a set of Dare F6 wheels. If you have the chance to check them out I’d appreciate any feedback.

I have BBS RSIIs. I think the fears are 10.5 too and no fouling or arch issues. In fact they look like they always belonged to the car.

Yes, they'll fit, however offset is a little weak, especially at the front, I'd add 5mm spacers to the rear and 20mm to the front (for appearance and caliper clearance). Whilst the wheels you're looking at are quite complimentary to the original design, DARE wheels are very cheap cast wheels; when you can buy an entire set for around the £500 mark, you need to question the quality, they're probably made of cheese.

Shitty grammar.

Thanks for the reply Funkysi. It was the compliment to the original design that made me want them. Apparently Dare wheels are JWL VIA approved to 785kg per wheel. I don’t know what other brands are rated at but I thought that sounded more than adequate?

Thanks for your reply Gaz. Yeah I think they would look amazing on the Z, just not sure about the offset and what size spacers they’ll require. Also a tad concerned about keeping the polished lip clean with UK weather!

I am very OCD with my wheels (and cars) the Z is garaged all Winter so thats why they look so good after 7 years its the only way to keep a classic car that you want to own for a very long time.

Very clean looking wheels there Gaz. Don’t worry, she’s garaged and will only come out for the summer. Do you have any recommendations for wheel cleaning products?

AndrewG that would be a tad difficult living in Jersey mate

Have you used third gear yet? Your national speed limits only 40 mph isn’t it? ? I visit jersey for work now an again, usually fly in though tbh.

Nice wheels they are very like the oem wheels only bigger and with a dish.

My wheels were not expensive anout the £500 mark and bought several years ago. They are still like new and have proved very strong.

I like the look of these too - and even considered them myself at one point.... However they are not "handed" like the OEM wheels - and my OCD could not cope with the left and right sides being different in appearance. A bit like with the old XR3i and RS Turbo dog-leg alloys, back in the 80s.

Exactly why I bought an auto Stephen ?

If it’s anything like mine was then your rolling around at 40 mph in over drive making lots of deep vibrations and chugging along ?
