Bloody things were temperature sensitive to an extent

First thing in the morning you had to pull this out..

And if it was a British car "Pray" it started :laugh: Always took a while getting use to another car and how much choke it needed,Too much and you had a wait on your hands after it flooded.Just what you wanted on a morning !

I remember the choke in my mums escort when i was a kid!

. . . Gallons of petrol, and 4 of them for less than a pound? (although pounds were bigger back then!)

Oh yes - the pre-electronic ignition days!! I fondly remember the DIY maintenance on my first cars - the Cavalier Mk1 and Manta; setting the contact breakers......

 

Oh yehh and setting them with these >>

…………..But whilst I did posses a set, I seem to remember setting the breakers using a bulb and turning the distributor until the light came on. I definitely remember using the feelers for gapping the 'plugs and adjusting the (non-hydraulic) tappets though!!

I don't remember that from my own driving days - but [4-star] petrol was around 40p per litre when I began in 1987!!

MoTs were a bit cheaper back then as well, be interesting to see what you got for £1.50. I think emissions were literally a sniff test!
