Hi folks,

My Mongoose exhaust is beginning to look a little (well) untidy - so after having the Zed resprayed I was thinking of getting a new one. I can't seem to find Mongoose or Scorpion still listing the Z32 fitment though. I see Luke has a cat-back system, but don't really like the "rolled-out" appearance of the tail pipes. That just doesn't suit the Zed IMO.

I have found this on Ebay though - looks like the old Japspeed system, just more expensive

Could it be a Manzo, seeing as it's from the US? And do we think it's any good.....??

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I had a custom system made by Hayward and scott years ago for my Ford Orion 1600E with a series 1 RS turbo engine.....

The quality was the best I have ever seen, 3 inch stainless steel....

They build it to your car. It fits like a tailored suit, no rattles and no issues.

They aren't cheap, but they sound amazing, look amazing and perform perfectly.

They have made systems for Fords GT40, Aston Martin, etc..

If I was to replace mine I would let them build me one.... Might be worth a quote Richard??

This is probably how I will approach my next exhaust and go for a quad “Abflug” look.

They look like Jap speed which I had on my black Z and they can be a bit loud/boomy Richard.

Cheers Gary - Just what I was thinking too!! The Mongoose has a nice burble, but isn't too loud.

Excellent - thanks for the link Russ. It would mean I can keep quad pipes to retain the OEM+ look

Why not polish up your Mongoose system Richard?

Because the 'Moon'goose system sounds like a big fart. ;)

Blueflame Exhausts built the Mongoose systems for them, but they had a business fall out and Blue flame retained the jigs and so made them under their name from then on, Mongoose used another builder and from then the fit was poor and oval tips were used, later they fitted swivel joints at the back boxes to ease the fitment issues.

So maybe try speaking with Blueflame

I could JP - but that would mean either taking it off, or crawling under the car, either way, it's a lot of scrubbing up!! Plus there is a slight scuff in one of the tailpipes, like it's been filed. Whilst it's only small, I know it's there! Thing is, although I bought it new, it was for my red Zed, around 2004/5. The next owner removed it and fitted a single exit system, so I bought it back for peanuts and fitted it to my blue Zed. Complete with scrape - it hasn't bothered me until now...

Cheers Jeff, I was thinking the same - as it's the Blue Flame version that I originally purchased! I also vaguely remember I had the option of oval tips back then too - which don't look too bad IMO!

If you do replace it and you want to sell your old one, let me know as I might be interested [emoji106]

Blueflame are now in Stafford and as far as I can see they only do bike exhausts now.

They built my custom SWB exhaust for me back in the days when they were based in Skelmersdale.

Around 2005 IIRC!!

the system is still in fantastic condition on my current slicktop, having been on both my previous cars as well.

They subsequently built me some custom decat pipes.

Looks like you are dead right Pete....! Having done a fair few searches today, I could only reach the same conclusion.

I think their roots were in bike stuff originally..

Do not get the Japspeed system Richard,All the ones i see are rotten.Made from old toasters and kettles no doubt.Very inferior stainless of the lowest grade possible. That UK zed is worthy of a far more superior exhaust in my opinion :cool2:

Have one built instead? Exactly how you like. Jim, those guys over at Infinity still decent? Just an idea :cool2:

What if they were Russell Hobbs toasters, they’re pretty decent?

PMSL - and don't worry mate; I'll not be getting a Japspeed…. I think their Z32 system went out of production a long time ago - probably for the very reason you suggest.

The one I posted looked almost identical though - I'll give you that - it's made in the USA by an outfit called CX racing. It looks better quality than the Manzo, I originally thought it was... And I have been investigating the Billy Boat (B&B) systems too; as they seem to suit a Zed - Z1 sells that for around $1,095 plus delivery. However the welding on the BB looks pretty poor in the photos too.... I guess like everything else made in the USA, it's built to last until a week from next Tuesday.

I think I'm going to have the same need soon-ish. There's a lot less choice out there now, isn't there. Couple of years ago I went to these guys https://profusionexhausts.com/ and they quoted about £1,400 for a fabricated one. That RTec one looks a lot better value!

If you’re considering w custom exhaust, speak to Pete Ellis of PTR exhaust in Brackley. Works mainly on Group C, Formula 3 and other historic race cars. Very reasonably priced for the level of quality (he’ll also so building my exhaust)

Dead right Mike...

I initially thought the one I first posted was good value - but it's too much like the Japspeed. Plus I still prefer the OEM+ look of twin quad pipes. I'm calling RTec tomorrow to discuss - and will ask if there's a multi-buy discount...
