Hi,

I have a UK 300ZX TT and want to buy an OEM exhaust system for my car. Ideally, I am looking for a complete system in excellent condition, but would be interested in just the rear silencers. I am also needing the original tail pipe tips.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the club Stephen. OEM exhausts as far as I know can not be bought new but I could be wrong. They come up on ebay second hand but they could be in bad shape. My advice is buy a new after market exhaust. What type of 300zx have you got SWB or LWB?

Hi and welcome to the club Stephen....

As Gary says, do you really want an OEM exhaust? My advice, try to source a Mongoose system if you can - similar look to the OEM one; but being stainless steel, it will last longer and sound a little more purposeful (without being too loud)…!!

Thanks for the welcome. I had two 300Zx's as company cars when they were new. Back top back, covered 150,000 miles between the two cars. Just awesome machines and even though I now help run a classic car business where we get to drive many iconic cars, the 300 ZX stands out. I am 60 this year, its nearly 30 years since my 1st test drive of a 300ZX!

My car is a UK LWB, I am trying to keep the car as original as possible and the only thing letting it down is an aftermarket stainless exhaust system. My main want is that the rear silencers and diameter of the tail pipes look OEM.

I have an excellent bespoke stainless steel exhaust fabricator who makes low pressure exhaust for race / track cars, so if I cannot locate an original system, then will ask him to fabricate a look a like. However, would need a schematic of the original with dimensions.

Thanks for your help

Thanks Richard,

The exhaust that has been fitted is a stainless unit, but there are no lamba sensor facility, so cold starting is not the best.

My reply to Gary kind of explains what I am trying to achieve.

Will try and post some pics of my car when I work out how

Lambda probes are generally fitted in the downpipes on Z32s. I have never seen even an aftermarket exhaust where there is no provision for these, there's always a boss. Are you sure you're not getting muddled up with the cat overheat sensors?

….also, Lambda sensors are on closed-loop under cold-start conditions, ie their values are ignored on the cold-start portion of the fuel map. It's likely you have another issue.

Welcome to the Club Stephen. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your UK spec. Regarding your cold start issue what are the

symptoms? For example - hard to get the engine to fire, rough initial idle, smell of petrol. Is the engine running smoothly when

it is up to temp and pulling cleanly when driving?

It would help if you can find out if the ECU is showing an error code. You can read it off the side of the ECU or plug in a ConZult.

This is a handy guide to diagnose ECU fault codes:

At the very least it provides a pattern to copy and the tips are present.

The only issue is on start cold up (car left overnight), it needs some throttle before it splutters before clearing to an even idle. Save for this the car runs perfectly. The car was recently checked out by a specialist tuning / turbo company and no fault codes on the ECU.

Thanks for your help and when I work out how to attach a photo will post some pics

Thanks, I saw this system and think its a good shout as I can use it for dimensions if I decide to build a new system to OEM dimensions.

Let us know how you get on it would be nice to see the final product. Putting pictures up are easier if you subscribe to the club plus a lot more advantages.

You can then use the Private Messages system Stephen to send me the VIN. I can then look up the build date and

factory spec of the car for you.

Thankyou for your support Stephen and if you pm me the details in the link below I can send you a membership pack. Your membership number is 001832.

Hallo Seniorsideways, I'd be interested in hearing how you get on. My backboxes are on the way out so this is a problem I will shortly have. On my first 300ZX, when this happened, I replaced with a stainless steel with two tips each side like OEM but it was a bit boomy at certain revs.

As it happens, it looks as if OEM is still available. If not in UK/Europe (ask Mike Feeney) then you can check via https://www.amayama.com/en which shows Euro back boxes as a stock item https://nissan-europe.epc-data.com/300zx/z32/2954-vg30dtt/exhaust_and_cooling/200/20100/ . I checked also a UK Nissan site https://www.online-parts.co.uk/nissan-spare-parts/search_results.php?MODsid=e379015e45e4d50a56194976aff16f95&keywords=B010041P61 £300 + VAT and delivery per back box!

So if your fabricator can do the same in SS for less, be interested in the result.

Cheers

Hi Gio

I contacted Mike Feeney and only one of the two back boxes are available. As I need the complete system, I just ordered a set of the 4 original stainless steel chrome tips. Thanks for the heads up.

Gaz 300 kindly sent me a link for an original exhaust on Ebay. I bought the system and collected on Friday night. Amazingly the system is complete and virtually rot free, so good that I am going to put it onto my car. Delighted

The company that makes the bespoke exhaust systems are superb fabricators. I will see if I can get a photo of the system they made for my sons E92 M3 V8

Cheers
