Sign up thread for the August 23rd to 26th Bank Holiday weekend at Fat Lamb Inn, Ravenstonedale, located between the Lake District, North Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales.

Dates voted for

The venue is great, with warm welcome and brilliant food. I think we all put on a few lbs last time  as well as throughly enjoying the driving to, from and around.

Previous visit we stayed 2 nights, with a great drive around the North Pennines on the Sunday, and general consensus was we need another day/night to make best use of the journey from the south, and appreciate the roads and scenery.

So this time, we have reserved a 4 day/3 night weekend, although you also have the flexibility to book just 2 nights if that suits you better.

Prices are for 2 people bed, breakfast and 3 course evening meal at the AA 4* rated hotel.

2 nights £290

3 nights £435

Reservations are first come first served basis with deposit direct with the venue.

Call Paul on 015396 23242 to book in and then update your details below with which days, so that we can work out the best events for each day.

There are plenty of interesting locations around where we can arrange a route with tourist stops and/or just a day of driving and lunch fuel stops.

All to be arranged and confirmed over the coming months.

If all rooms are filled, Paul has another location nearby or can arrange with local hotels/B&B's, and still cater for everyone at the Lamb for the evening meals.

If you want to attend either or both days and make own arrangements, or live locally, that's great too. There are a few ideal spots to meet up at depending on which day/agenda you want to join.

wow. another great day. started off with Tom, visiting Ribblehead via some more nice roads, then a quick stop at Devil’s Bridge for ice cream.

then we split up and it was Ian, me and Ayrton for the day.

back to the “twisty route” satnav, and we have done some fantastic roads, going to the Lakeland museum, up to part of Hardknott, then Wrynose, the Struggle, Kirkstone, and then some really obscure roads back via Shap.

out of the 150 or so miles, we did a maximum of 5 miles on main roads.

the Kraftwerk Krew would have had Kittens on some of these roads, as a few bush scrapes might need a light polish out, and some very tight single roads and passing places, and lots of cows and sheep to avoid.

a few more pics from the day

I really enjoyed this weekend. Fantastic driving on all the back roads, amazing views & avoided all the traffic & managed to avoid that sheep... only just. Was a good test for the cars but they all ran well. I was a bit worried about my stillen lip going up & down those dips & I might have cleared a few cow pats off the road with it but it was great fun. I've said this before but I dont understand why more people dont come along to this. Much more enjoyable than a static meet. Thanks Craig for organising it, I'll be back next year. Cant upload my pics as I keep getting an error, I'll put them on my Facebook instead.

certainly felt like we were driving the “mountain goat” special edition

Ian and myself left this morning, taking the amazing road down to Hawes and stopping at the Wensleydale Creamery for tea and cake, before heading off to the A1.

Hit some traffic so we came off again, plumbed in some more scenic routes and avoided almost all of the 15 mile tailback traffic, joining again right near the front.

After that a troublefree run down the A1, stopping at Peterborough services for the goodbyes.

brilliant weekend.

might have to do 2 sets of routes for next time, meeting up at all the same places, but with very different roads.

one of the sunday roads was mile and half with no passing places and high hedges, its one of the pics. luckily we didnt meet anything as that would have been awkward

Money but more pressing for me would be time away from the family. I look forward to the days when me a the wife can just jump in the car for a long weekend away with the car though.

Thanks for all the pictures guys it’s been great following your progress.

I know the cost of the weekend could be an issue, especially if you're down south getting up to the lakes wouldnt be cheap for fuel. But theres plenty of members in the Midlands & the north who could come for one night or for the day. I've got a young family so has coopd but we make plans almost a year in advance to make arrangements so we can go. I know things crop up & people drop out but it's such a shame only 4 cars turned up for a meet like this, especially with the effort Craig puts in to organise it.

thanks for the vote of confidence Tom, much appreciated. :thumbup1:

researching the routes, finding somewhere to stop for lunch, making sure there was fuel on the way if needed, etc, did take a little while to do, especially as i created multiple routes so that we had some options.

i know we set these dates after voting, and quite a long way in advance, but it is August and bank holiday too.

might need to find a different weekend next year? or plan something different altogether, as we were discussing.

i am not sure that Paul at the Fat Lamb will want to reserve us a weekend next year, unless we get more people signed up earlier, as it also makes it difficult for him if noone books.

After the success of this event last year, I really expected it to gather momentum and be even bigger this year. For me there were a few factors that made me drop out, the obvious cost of the weekend with hotel bills etc, child care issues as my wife and I were both keen to come, but more importantly, we move in a few days time and we really needed this weekend to get organised!

I do hope that we can make a success of this event as it’s one of the most attractive on the calendar in my eyes. Besides, I like kittens!

It's no worry Joel, the difficulty is in the organising upfront, trying to get rooms reserved etc, and the same problem with many of the shows we go to, where you have to commit a certain number of spaces upfront, and then when you dont fill them, it becomes difficult the following year asking for the same thing again.

With some of the roads this year, i think you would now be overrun with kittens, running out of fingers and toes to count them on

or you would have to book a week off to restore the car back to normal.. Ian and myself will certainly have a few bits to buff out this year

Next year, we might try and factor in a NC500 based trip, but that will be even longer, and require even more commitment.

Maybe start or end with a Lakes weekend, and a during the week trip for the Scotland part.
