The issue being, whatever part of the line you're now sitting, what was offered at the referendum is very different to what the potential likely outcome will be.

As part of a democratic society, irrespective of which standpoint you're on, a poll for a number of options which are NOW available is very much a democratic thing to do.

What was sold on both sides of the table two years ago was a crock.

I totally agree, two years ago Brexit was presented as a yes/no option. All in or all out, but more alarmingly it was sold individual parts of the population on individual points.

No Job? - we'll stop immigration that will solve that - vote Brexit.

Having to wait for an operation? - we'll give the NHS 350 million a week - vote Brexit

Wages low? we'll take control of economy and make it boom- vote Brexit

I also believe that the Brexit campaigners found a "magic bullet" to win the vote by targeting the proportion of the population who don't normally vote with specific promises that clearly were never going to come to anything. Hence the massive turnout.

So what we have done with the democratic process is allowed the least politically aware to shape our future.

As a majority we elect a minority whose role is quite simple.

"Learn all you can about a situation and make the best decision on our behalf."

Except of course with the single most defining and important vote we will see in our lifetimes.

Where we watch a continuous tirade of clowns on both sides making stuff up.

Then when the Brexit camp wins they have the temerity to ask the Government what the plan is?

Fast forward and we find ourselves where we are today.

A stubborn PM who appears to be running down the clock by delaying votes and discussions, presumably in order to shoehorn her plan in because it will leave no time for amendments and we all agree a hard Brexit would be a disaster.

The Hard line Brexiteers all saying the plan is a betrayal, but strangely are unable to offer an alternative, and have also resigned from positions where they could have influence.

A leader of the opposition who is slowly but surely chasing the big job by seeing this as nothing more than an opportunity to hammer political nails into May's political coffin.

Oh and now all of the previous Prime Ministers who are still alive have said we should have a second referendum - but what do they know? It's not like they have any experience.

I also wonder why if we have a General Election every 5 years (where the public are allowed to revisit their previous decision) would it be a "betrayal of Democracy" (according to Mrs May) to revisit this decision?

Call me cynical, but I wonder there is a fear that a significant demographic of those who voted to leave who are likely to resort to French style violent protests.

Are we being held to ransom by what might be?

Incredible times, where we live in a developed country with a powerful economy and are being led by an unelected leader into a situation that neither the Leavers or the Remainers voted for.

Just re read some of my previous posts on this thread and I'm beginning to think I should have been Mystic Meg when the lottery first started.

Interesting comment made on the radio yesterday and I am paraphrasing a little here.

" These politicians who are claiming we will take back control of our economy, borders and laws, who are currently making a complete hash of the process, will be the ones in charge of our economy, borders and laws if we leave. Just have a think about that for a moment."

What a mess  Just leave and build a new world trade before all credibility in the UK goes out the window...

Don't panic so far we have managed to secure post Brexit trade deals with the following countries - and I kid you not this is the truth

just about, there trying to get the 1922 commitee to change the rules so she can be challenged again for leaderships since shes a dead duck :ban:

If they are still using rules from 1922 what do they expect. Lol

Really they all need to get in the real world and start running the country, I don’t know why we let them squabble between themselves while the country falls apart.

I agree - sadly most of the politicians from all parties are just self-serving and delusional. And with today's Millennial generation, influenced by social media, it will only get worse.... Theresa May has done the best she could, trying to deliver Brexit - putting her own personal "remain" leaning views aside, to do what [we] voted for in 2016. Shame the rest of Parliament behaved like children and denied the will of the electorate. Yes, I know the "Leave" campaign won by a small majority - but isn't that democracy? A vote is cast, the results are counted; and whatever gets more votes, wins...?? Well that was what I learned whilst growing up!!

Hey ho... But now that he has bided his time; made way for David Cameron's successor to finally fail in the role, I hope Boris gets the job. He maybe regarded as a clown by some; but Boris is a lot cleverer than he makes out...…

…...And let's be honest, as a capitalist country, in a free market economy, among the world's leading nations; we simply cannot afford to see Comrade Corbyn in No.10. That man is the real clown and a threat to us as a nation - he'll drag us back to the dark ages once more and leave the UK defenceless in the world. If Boris is our only hope of keeping Corbyn out of Government, so be it...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Really? I must have read a different version of the WA to you Richard. The version I read is the polar opposite to that statement.

Must be the sum total of about £4.99s worth of GDP there.

I'm still hoping it may end up back in the polls and a higher proportion of the country will actually turn out to vote for what is the most important national decision in modern times, it's not like a general election where we can change our minds 3 years down the line if we don't like who's currently in number 10, once this is done, it's done. Current opinion polls (Ref:KPMG) suggest remaining in the EU would win by a significantly higher margin than the 3.8% (which under general election conditions is nowhere near a majority) in the 'non-binding' referendum. :)

All politicians have let us down and May as PM must take the biggest hit in making the UK look so farcical. The trouble is I see no one strong enough to steer the ship away from the storm we have made. We have no Thatcher's or Churchill's just Boris and God forbid Corbyn !

Hi everyone, Am i wrong in feeling that the 'May' approach has been to collude with the EU to offer what we won't accept, annoy and frustrate everyone so much that we say, "oh just forget it we will stay!"...????

It feels like certain people dealing with Brexit are just trying to get the people who voted to leave so angry, disillusioned and confused that they will change their mind or just give up the idea of leaving as unachievable......

I personally want a second vote........ 'ON the general election!'..... where it appears all parties lied..... If we are going for the idea that if we don't like a result, call for another vote until we get what we want??

Politicians and parties are in a complete mess, NOBODY believes a word they say on either stay or leave sides...... Something needs to change to regain our belief in democracy, politicians and their parties!!!

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Really? I must have read a different version of the WA to you Richard. The version I read is the polar opposite to that statement.

I haven't read any version of the WA Andrew; but I'm not wrong in that Theresa May voted remain; and I'm certainly not wrong in that the people voted for Brexit in 2016. And supposedly, she has tried to deliver Brexit in one form or another.....

...But then I also believe, that half of what you read is bull, and the other half is shit...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Dead right Gaz...

The biggest let-down was Cameron. Sure, he promised the referendum in his 2015 manifesto - and indeed gave it to us.... Sadly, he staked his political career on us all voting remain. Instead, he should have remained impartial as Prime Minister - and then cleared up the shit following the result, whatever that may have been. Instead he promoted "remain" and then had a hissy fit and resigned when it didn't go his way - leaving the UK in a mess.

That's why he is the second ex-PM after Blair who should not receive a knighthood.....

I know he is actually the third who hasn't - Gordon Brown has (thus far) not been knighted either - but that's probably down to being Blair's Chancellor and sending the economy floating down the river, before he got to be PM.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

...Still, politics remains that great divider - and Brexit is certainly the greatest divider since 1642-1651...

...But on the subject, who voted today - no need to say how, that's your business - but who put a proper X in a box and voted properly?

I did, I still feel it's my democratic duty; despite how disillusioned I may have become. Seems I wasn't alone in the village either... I thought I'd pop in on the way to work, only to see a bloody long queue at 7.01 this morning. Bugger that, I thought, and drove straight past the polling station. So I dropped in on the way home instead:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Shitty grammar.

Nigel Farage. What's to say about this utter banker who was given £450,000 and a rent-free house in Chelsea by an offshore insurance "businessman" while still getting his salary (and about to get pension) from the EU and yet claimed to be "skint". Clearly a man of the people who isn't part of the establishment. And there's Cameron with his £28,000 shed. And May with her £900 leather trousers. Sheesh. Anyhow, interesting video on Farage's interview with Andrew Marr.
