Return of the 'Tin Worm' and possibly giving up......

Hi everyone, after a lot of issues over the past few years and less and less time to spend repairing my Z...... I am contemplating giving up and breaking her......

This will be the end of my 17 years of Z ownership....

I found a folded over piece of sill lip under the drivers side front where the front wing is bolted onto the sill. It looks like someone has jacked the car on the lip or something has hit it from underneath.

I will never jack her there for this very reason and it was very rusty where it was damaged.

After stripping off the underseal today I have found i have lost about 20cm of the inner seal where it meets the floorpan, as well as a lot of the shaped front floorpan....

Heres the original picture of my first find......IMG_1999.jpg

After stripping the underseal off to get a better idea of where the rust ends...... It just kept going both along the inner sill and across the floorpan........

I am now feel overwhelmed trying to work out how to go about fabricating something that doesn't look like a bodged on piece of metal......

heres the video i did of how bad it is........[video=youtube_share;A69wZfDIGB4]

Try not to despair Russ, easily said I know.

But I can empathise with you, I really can.

All I can say is take a little time before you make a final decision mate, you have come so far.

If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

Thanks Redwine...... I don't want to get an unsympathetic welder/fabricator who would just slap on a patch....

I want accurate replacement panels, either new or great used condition....

I would do it as i was ready to fabricate a shaped panel for the indented section with the original hole i found.....

But as it is a few panels all shaped, i am going to get in touch with someone I know who does vintage work....

I know you can get sill panels, but can you get floorpan sections or the inner sill section?

If not then is anyone breaking a Z with a good drivers side floor and sill????

It really only looked superficial when you showing me yesterday Russ. Seriously don't jump to any decision you'll regret

As stated in your other thread....

Hey Russ glad you got the MAF and can get the car running (Joel, some Rep is heading your way). Regarding the rust, it’s a common problem nowadays mate, but one that a lot of body shops / welders have seen plenty of times these days, so it isn’t as big a deal as it used to be, Jimmer can get sills and has a guy who’s got experience of doing it. Basically what I’m saying, keep the chin up, it can be sorted over the Winter and we can both be driving solid cars for next Summer

You should see the rust on my red car, I can see through the floor pan on mine and I’ve a boot sized hole in the sills:scared:

Still getting it fixed though :thumbup1:
