My terrible experience with trusting a so called club Importer to bring in a z32!

Hi guys I thought I would share my experience I have had recently with asking someone from the club to import a z32 for me....

I would have come on sooner but to tell you the truth I've not been really happy lately. building my hopes up with something that was promised to be great but turned out to be a complete utter hunk of shit to look at putting it bluntly.

Also the experience I had with the garage that he uses for the jobs is unbelievable. I had to get them to stop all the work on it, and not to touch anything else and get someone straight over to collect the vehicle and trailer it away to someone that actually knows what they're doing.

There's a few guys on the club that have seen the car and was shocked and know the situation please speak up so we can stop this from happening in the future to anyone else!

Really regret not buying slick Pete's na Z when I had the chance!.

I'm a bit busy at the moment there's a lot happening with my duty. but I've got loads of pictures and documented everything I will update this thread very soon!

On the back of what Joel just wrote... We're you trying to get a show car? I'm just thinking wouldn't you need to go for a grade 4 to 5 for that?

I remember seeing one that was a grade 4 ages ago and it was in really good shape

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

very sad to hear.

regardless of registered business or not, i think you will find he has sold enough cars to be classed as a trader, and therefore you should be able to use the sale of goods guidelines to get your money back or pursue legally.

as a club, we do our best to attract good traders, but no trader can be 100% for every person every time.

it is a problem for the club, as registered traders should be considered as trusted, but the only real answer is NOT to have traders listed.

Yup - I could not have put it better myself....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The site does not allow anything to be displayed that is not a picture even though it may have allowed the attachment to be uploaded.

If the attachments are email files like .eml then they could contain code and as such are blocked.

So to answer your question it is a forum issue but its on purpose.

Thus is the error I get. @JaiKai is this a forum issue?

As SI stated and Jimmy and the guy at gorilla imports they said it looks more like a grade 2.0 then 3.5. I was expecting just to replace the steering wheel and seats as I already had those bits. Plus I already have Gear gaiter with red stitching handbrake boot Italian leather with red stitching with my personal steering wheel Recaro seats and harnesses carbon fibre handbrake handle gear shifter. And everything underneath the car with wheels. But the paint is wrecked it really needs to be taken down completely just ask Jimmy or Si. The same with all the trim pieces.

That makes a bot more sense. Thought I'd seen grade 3's that looked better years ago when I was considering having a car brought over.

Hopefully it won't cost you too much to sort out mate.

I was watching that Australian guy on YouTube intake. Where he takes off the strips get some 800 grit sandpaper give them a going over finishes off with satin black for an OEM finish looks really good. That's what I was thinking about doing it myself I've also bought spare clips from czp just in case I break any. Then it's a case of getting someone to price up a spray job but there's no point doing that until I get a 99 bumper sorted out and the little black strip at the back with the brake light. I've already got the 99 side lights with wires and complete 99 rear lights with centrepiece.

Which strips do you mean mate

The weather strips across the doors also the strips that run across either side of the roof and down alongside the window front... Looked easy enough on the video, but I've heard from Jimmy they are an absolute pain in the ass to do.

In fairness, he did own up to that and offer to buy the car back. But this sort of negligence on a second occasion is taking the piss.

Offered to buy the car back? that was not quite how it played out on here in the begining ...what ever the owner of that car will find it either unsellable in the future of a fraction of what it should be worth.

Would you buy a used Z of him now? let alone the car`s themselves the skill set of the garage he has been using for work is in question

What's Gary's response been like to you? Is there a way you can claim money back from the auction place or is it all sold as seen even though its not as described.

Pretty much if you want to make a claim go for it but you'll be wasting your time.

Not helpful at all then. I would've thought an import company would have something in place for this kind of thing. That's why you go through them isn't it? For piece of mind that you're getting what you've asked for. Otherwise you might as well import it yourself, you're taking the same risk but you'll save money.

Normally i relish the arrival of fresh JDM cars. This car was not a welcoming site.It is nigh on rust free and clean underneath which is a huge bonus given all the negaitives it has.The paint is woeful to say the least. It was Silver once and for whatever reason the owner has decided to have a go himself at a respray,No bodyshop could turn out a finish that bad.Its dry with an eggshell finish and has sags everywhere. No attempt at masking has been made at all so all the window strips were white underneath then hand painted back to black. The mileage is hugely questionable also going by the state of the drivers seat, the steering wheel and the gear knob which is minus the leather cover. The cooling system was in a terrible state with corroded pipes and leaks everywhere and not a hint of history regarding a 60k cambelt service etc and all for the asking price of 6k which is way beyond its true value.

No winners here as Steven has a Z that cost to much because of its condition and Gazwoz is getting all the bad rep.

I have now read both sides views on what happened and shared it with the Committee and until we talk about it in the Committee room I cant commit here. But here is the Auction House report/description of the 300zx and will leave you to decide if you would go ahead and bid on this Z or leave it alone.

Interior C, first registered December 1996, 5-speed manual gearbox, AC, power seat, power windows, original alloy wheels, one owner, fully repainted from unknown colour to white, only exterior has been repainted, paintwork uneven, steering wheel worn, driver's seat has 10 centimetre cut et cetera, driver's seat sagging, part of tonneau cover worn and cracked, wheels scratched, scratches and dents, roof and bonnet painted in different colour, paintwork uneven on roof and bonnet, rear wiper missing, other marks as per map

And that was graded at a 3.5 with that description??? id say something was a miss from day one. as mentioned above id have agreed thats a grade 2 at best. sorry to hear of such a bad experience but surely this was read and understood before purchase? was you really expecting a "good" car with that desription??

I personally would have run away instantly on reading that..

He did offer to buy it back yes, after much complaining by me, and he did put a reasonable amount of effort in to get the cars history from the Japanese government so we were satisfied it wasn't actually stolen. I ended up keeping it and I don't regret it because I think it was a good price. But I was pretty horrified he missed it on the auction sheet before he bid, and when the story broke 2 years ago it showed he didn't get the cars checked before shipping them. I guess very naive of me but I didn't think of it at the time, I just assumed he did get them inspected. I fully agree here, this negligence a second time is unforgivable IMO. He clearly just looks at the grade and nothing else or he would have seen the way the paint was described.

How the car is graded 3.5 is a travesty, but I would say the description is accurate enough.

If I were you, lobby to get your money back and rid yourself of it. This isn't your fault, it's his.

Would Steve have had access to all that info and pictures before buying?

I didn't know uneven paint meant that it was painted with a Brillo pad? When I read that information I was like not too bad because I have wheels I have seats steering wheel and other interior bits to rectify those faults. With the dentist they were supposed to be hardly even noticeable, but they are very noticeable in the door as I've seen it in person now.

All the trim pieces all the rubber seals are ruined the paint is an absolute shambles and will cost me thousands of pounds to get that sorted out now as it will need to be taken completely down and resprayed! If I knew how bad the paint actually was and I could see in the pictures instead of low resolution pictures from a great distance, i would never have said to go ahead with the sale!

In future if someone's going to import a car for somebody at least have the professionalism to have someone inspect the vehicle at the auction beforehand so there's no more confusion going on especially when it's supposed to be a grade 3.5 but turns out it's more like a grade 2!

I suppose I was naive in thinking that all Japanese cars are highly maintained in taking care of, obviously this one isn't in that category. In future if I wish to import another car I'll take my business elsewhere ie Josh at gorilla imports.

This is the experience I've had definitely a learning curve. Also I want to make people aware of what I've been through so they can avoid the same mistake I made.

I'll be starting another thread soon once I've saved up enough money, on transforming the car into something special in the near future.

What colour was the car originally? (check the chassis plate if you're not sure)

Originally silver as you can see when you open the doors...
