Anyone seen this before? I check my coolant levels all the time, but I've noticed that the black rubber seal/gasket has expanded.

Anyone have any idea why this would happen or what might have caused it.

So age/wrong coolant/Poor coolant mix or something else.

Been on google but can't really find anything. I've added pictures of the cap and the fluid that's been used in the car.

Thanks a lot,

Lee

Thanks Jeff. I've ordered one, just wondering what causes it as I don't really want to put another one in if it's something like bad fluid that can cause it if that makes sense

Playing with it too much

Rubber doesn’t last forever Lee, it absorbs water, rots, softens etc. It simply doesn’t last forever, age.

Generally age related combined with high temps and maybe too high a concentration of antifreeze.

Thanks mate. I've ordered a new cap but I'll get a tester to check the antifreeze mix

I know mate, it's just the first time I've seen them do that and didn't want to make the assumption that it was just due to age, buy another and the same thing happens when I should have checked the antifreeze or something else first

Yes and yes....

….And isn't the OEM 'cap rated at 1.2bar...? I can't remember - and my Zed is still up at Dasstech, so I cannot check...!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

It is mate. I put this one in as the other one was damaged and this was just put in as a stop gap. Only been in a week or so but it was old. So I'm thinking there could be more at play than just age

Bit of an update...

So I got a new cap and the same appears to be starting after just a couple of weeks. The cap I bought was a new one off eBay, but not the best quality. The photos are 1 from before and 1 from just now. I just also check the mix, it's got too little coolant, but would that make this happen?
