Not an actual 300zx headlight but the spring wire holding the bulb in is the same

Done it !.....was stuck in there...can't have been out for years!

Nice one Gary - glad you got it out.....

......Now (if you haven't already) get a nice HID conversion in there...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

HID Conversions are MOT fail from 20 th May I believe . I'm planning to take mine out.

Not sure how my tester would be able to tell. the ballasts are well hidden and i can tell them that the 300zx came with them (which it did just not my one)

Last year the garage was going to fail my z because I had no headlight washers for my HID's!

The MOT jargon stated "if headlight washer's are fitted" ect, ect.

So when challenged he passed it! Seems like I'm going to have fun with my HID's next month when MOT due!

well had my mot yesterday and the tester told me non standard HID's are a fail from the 20th may, they can tell the difference because of the strike up time of a HID, however i did say to him so as long as i have standard lamps in mine for test, can i reinstate the HID's a few days later, his answer was yes. personally i very much doubt old bill will know the difference between hid & standard lamps, so i'm just going to buy a pair of h3c for the test then put the hids back a few days later. i know my zed will be fine with standard lamps as i stripped and rebuilt my headlights 2 years ago and had the reflectors re silvered, however i can see it will be a problem for tarnished headlights and could still fail because the beam is crap.

A potential issue with refitting HID's after a test may be with insurance companies and loss adjusters in the event of an accident. They will always

look for ways to minimise their liability (pay out) of a claim. For example, if they consider that non standard lighting was a contributory factor in an

accident at night time. It would be good to hear from someone in the car insurance business.

well i did say to the tester what if i fitted genuine HID lights that were made for a later spec car, apparently that would be ok but i don't want to spend out nearly 2k to risk finding out it's still a fail.

got to say with my reflectors re-silvered in my headlights the 35w lamps were pretty good, not as good as hid, but could certainly see the road ok

LOL - but that's the route I'd be taking too....

….Interesting to see how various MOT testers deal with our cars after the new rules come into play!!

Anyone ever tried putting in d1s bulbs with an adapter to fit them? They can be quite expensive but they come with ballast on the bulb. Not sure if they would actually clear inside the headlight. No ballasts to find and MOT is all look no touch except for brake pipes.
