So I want people's opinions on what oil i should put in my TT Z. I put oil in it 2 years ago and its only done a couple hundred miles, but im installing an oil pressure sensor so oil needs draining and refilling. In the past ive always gone with 5w-40 or 10w-40 of whatever is at the local petrol station but I'd like to be a bit more prepared this time.

I've read through oilman's post about viscosity and synth, but still not sure specific. oilman says synthetic because it gives superior protection than semi, but nissan/Jeff have recommended semi.

Regarding viscosity, the car is mostly sitting and started every couple months for a little drive (nothing major), stock internals with bolt ons and upped boost. Anyone want to recommend something?

Also specific brands better than others?

In summary, semi-synth vs synth, viscosity, and brand?

When "oilman" posted up threads in the past the debates rambled on and ..........on.

This will be the same......

all the usual suspects will jump in to give their opinions and help their post count .

no car forum ever agrees on "the best oil"

So I have a suggestion as you are a bright young well educated university student........................

Make a decision all on your own... buy it.........then post up a picture of what you have bought.

Shocking suggestion I know.... deciding something on your own without three days of internet debate.:scared:

I would if I understood the science behind it, but i'd rather have advice from people more knowledgeable.

For a car in storage should i need more viscosity when cold? what about preventing tappet noises. Will synth give me the most protection?

Im not asking for the best oil, im asking which qualities should be applicable to my scenario to give me good protection.

Otherwise 10w40 castrol synthetic it is.

For the record I use 12- 95 oil. Semi synthetic.

And what is the reason for having a thick oil when hot?

Bit cryptic but I get the picture. It doesn't matter that much. Just get some oil and slap it in there :)

Happy Birthday Alic

The oil thing is confusing everybody has their own opinion and there are loads on the market

Have a wander round Halfords buddy, see what’s on offer. Any respectable 10-40 is fine.
Thanks

Just looking to see if i could help my engine as it doesnt get driven much thats all

Awesome, an oil thread, a good chance to increase my post count! Until recently I always used Fuchs Pro S because oilman told me that was the best thing since sliced turkey burgers. But recently I switched to this because this is the best thing since grated sardines:

I only switched as I didn’t like the colour of the Fuchs! I change it once a year or every 2 years and yes I am a victim of oil greatness hype! I have a pretty good understanding of the science behind the oils and although it may not be necessary to pour in the worlds most expensive oil, I just can’t help myself; reassuringly expensive!

I work with some fine tolerance machines that require only the best available oils and it goes against the grain to put anything in the Z that hasn’t cost more than it should! I probably average around £50 a year on oil and filters so I’ll just carry on lining oilmans pockets with my blinkers well and truly fastened. [emoji43]

I know and the good thing is.........you barely need to touch on the subject of oil, unless you're Joel P who does go on, just post any rubbish and ruin his thread - it's also gone kinda unnoticed today that my post count is now in the 6 thousands !!

What a great opportunity to increase it even more!!

Im falling behind as im still in the 5K area:thumbdown:

im installing an oil pressure sensor so oil needs draining and refilling

Just for your info, the standard oil pressure sensor can be changed without draining the oil as its sits above the sump line.

Im replacing an aftermarket one on a sandwich plate above the filter. I guess I could without draining oil, but tappets have started being noisy being sat for so long and I just piece of mind that it's running properly
