Just wanting people's thoughts on whether it's worth while. On both standard and modified cars. I know you lose some top end speed, but I doubt I'll ever be trying to travel at 190 or whatever the top speed is

I say go for it on builds on stock turbos unless you cruise a lot and don't want the higher cruise rpm (~3000k at 70 instead of 2600ish)

On 500+hp builds you might prefer the traction and not just hitting the limiter.

(Hope I got everything right guys :) )

Thanks Alic. I'm more thinking of how to increase the speed of the car really. The black one is 5-600 brake so I'm wondering if there's much benefit to go this route

Guys reckon the R200 diff shaves a second off your 0-60 times and was the diff Nismo used / uses in most of its race cars. I’ve put one on my blue Z but can’t report any feedback other than it got rid of the whole HICAS system. I’m going to put one of my many TT diffs into the red car though:thumbup:

Why can't you report any feedback? You not got the car or something?

There was a YouTube video from some US z specialist mws that tested it on a car with bolt ones and it was much quicker by about a second 0-60 (yet not very scientific but I digress).

I have one on my impul because the plan for that car is for the car to perform as good as possible on stock turbos, maybe 450bhp.

On your black car just be weary that at 600hp you will not find traction at all. I was in Ash's car and on a dry day with semi slicks and an unknown diff with somewhere around 4.08 gears, and in 5th you still can't get any traction when boost hits.

I haven't had my car up to speed yet so would like to have some insight from someone who drives a zed regularly with one in.

Thanks Alic. Hopefully Ash will comment. I don't really want a car that becomes fairly undriveable but like the thought of the extra grunt

  • 3 weeks later...

My 300 has the n.a rear diff... I did it for a couple of reasons... shaving time off my 0-60. Gets rid of hicas and makes the car simpler at the back and in my opinion more fun ;)

Good reasons to not do it is increased revs on motorway journeys.

I'm more thinking about whether it'll give me much in the black car, which the has a fair bit power anyway

I noticed a big difference for acceleration mate. Mike highly recommends this mod... he talked me into it haha

I can imagine it being great on a moderately modified car. But is there a point where you have X amount of power, at which point it it's too much for the N.A. rear to handle. Or the car would be shit, a little uncontrollable to drive

Hmm. Well all I know is that Mike runs a n.a diff while running 500 plus bhp. He likes it haha. Have a word with him pal

I think it's all good with mine. It is really quick now, 3rd is a monster. I don't think it's uncontrollable or all wheelspin. Perhaps it is if you just go WOT and wait. But with a bit of right foot awareness it's fine. It is lighter and simpler. It's not a lot more revvy really.

However, I don't have as much power as you do.

1st is just a burnout

2nd feels similar to how it always did, it's just savage.

3rd feels like 2.5

4th feels like 3.5

and 5th feels slightly longer than 4th was.

It’s just such a shame they aren’t a bolt in affair (well they are), it’s not a case of if your not keen switch back etc it’s a complete rear end swap. Obviously there’s the leader gears but that’s not exactly cheap.

I did some maths around the time, iirc, changing your wheel size an inch (I did all the maths with rim diameter, tyre height and then rolling circumference of it all) can drop rpm at 70mph by about 75rpm. I nearly did it to take the edge off the slightly revvier motorway cruising.
