Jimmer has worked his magic and the car is running sweet as a nut ! Actually I think it's quieter than it's ever been ! Jimmer himself said he's very happy with it, commenting that it's a very strong and sound engine so I'm happy too. I think it's a wonderful testament for these cars that after standing for so long it's all positive. The rot has all been cut out and new bodywork sorted. This included the front radiator / air conditioning crossmember/mount that had rusted to dust almost. Removing the a/c proved difficult as it was in a fragile condition so it was replaced.

Now it's respray time......I'm going for Ford Frozen White as it's a nice bright modern white. I considered a metallic or pearl but I'm worried about colour matching if it should get damaged. I had to source a replacement drivers door which proved difficult but I finally found one in Scotland on Gumtree of all places. It's currently in transit to Bristol. Complicated of course by the change in seatbelt mount in '93 (mine being a '95). I'm following FunkiSi's advice and removing the tailgate glass for the respray.

So it's getting there :-)

Progress report.....

So today I delivered a box load of exterior trims to Jimmer. Essentially all the exterior trim including a new third brake lite and the t-top centre bar. I just felt that because it's being resprayed it would be a false economy to make any attempt to re-use any of the original trim......but GOSH it's expensive when you add it all up !!!

I also sourced new front bumper supports from ZCentre as the originals had returned to their natural state of nice brown iron ore :-) its worth mentioning if anyone else is thinking of replacing these two parts that they use clips that are NLA with Nissan so be careful to retain them when removing th sold supports.

As I type, the car is off at the paint shop getting its new suit. When I committed to this I knew it wouldn't be a quick process and I was happy with that but as it gets closer to completion I can't wait to get it back !

I will post pics when I get it back......

Getting there........

So yesterday my car was delivered back to Jimmer from the paint shop ! The guy that painted it said it's so white and bright that you can't look at it in the sunlight ! Exactly what I wanted :-)

He's done the roof bars in black to give it that seamless look front to back, and the 'moustache' and mirror mounts are in a graphite metallic to compliment the wheels and Jimmer said it looks great !

Had a long chat with Jimmer today and he's now refitting numerous interior and exterior bits and pieces and then it's MOT time.

I didn't ask for a timescale or completion date as I don't want to put any pressure on him, although I'm hoping I can make the Beaulieu event at the end of the month.

I do have pictures of the process from delivery to bodywork reconstruction, Jimmer work on the engine and brakes, and some of the paint shop's work.

I'd like to post a series once it's finished.

Almost there.............

Great news mark, sounds pretty much like for like I'm having done to mine with jimmer, even down to the aircon and rusty cross member lol,I need body work done to mine as the rear arches need doing properly, who, did the bodywork on your zed? I've needed my arches doing for the last 10 years...luckily because it spends all its life in the garage or garages it never gets any worse

Thanks guys.

The bodywork was done by a guy Jimmer knows......I've basically entrusted my car to him.
