I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for cleaning off the muck around the outside edge of the rear screen where the glass meets the seals?

I tried cream cleaner which didn’t make much difference then stepped it up to T-cut which made a bit more of an impact. The bits where I did get some results really brought the glass back to life. :cool3:

Cheers,

Chris.

are you looking at cleaning the outside or the inside?

I used a toothbrush !

Otherwise your z needs to be under cover.

APC cleaner like G101 in a 2:1 dilution. Tooth brush and regular car wash to wash off after.

Spray onto area. Leave for about 20 seconds, agitate with the tooth brush, hose off immediately and then wipe over again with a sponge before rinsing.

For water marks which you're likely to have in the lower corners, you'll need something called CeriGlass. Regular glass cleaner or polish won't touch it.

After you’re done I’d recommend getting some Autoglym bumper and trim gel and a micro fibre and running that round the seal. It makes the rubbers look nice and fresh and conditions them to stop them drying out. I use it on everything that’s black and plastic/rubber on the outside of the car or in the engine bay as well as any seals. It’s good and keeping the targa seals nice and tight too.

I wouldn't use wire wool.

Wire wool will be just fine, it’s what the pros use for the same application. Use a fine grade and take it easy. When I had a replacement rear screen fitted, I asked the fitter if he knew of anything that will remove those same white marks without damaging the glass or trim and he was all over it! It was easier with no trim to worry about but it came off in seconds without a trace. I find a new Stanley blade works well on the targas.

APC will likely not shift that limescale, even undiluted with a scrubbing brush but it will certainly discolour the moulding with a heavy concentrate.

Another one for fine grade wire wool. Used it to remove the glue from the glass after I removed my window tints. Just let the wool do the work, no real pressure is needed. It’s tempered glass so it won’t scratch unless you really lean on it

This is another job I’ve got to do when I get a change. Was it ok on the rear screen and the heating element?

What would you guys recommend to use for removing fine scratches, off of the outside hatch glass?

I would be carefull going over the heated screen element, I think I may have caused two of my lower ones to fail.

Despite my best efforts with the heat gun, it pulled a fair few of the elements off with it. I painstakingly repainted the lines with the repair paint, but I’m yet to test if it’s worked
