I’m hoping to get the front bumper off this week to remove the mesh that’s been fitted to it. Is it a straight forwarded job, any tricky screws and should I start at a specific point?

Cheers,

Chris.

It's quite involving although when you've done it a few times you get used to it.

How is the mesh secured? You might want to try and cut it out if you can get enough access. I'd probably only advise unscrewing the lower part of the bumper and removing the front engine tray. There's no need to fully remove it.

I'd like to propose a correction to that guide in which this bracket

In which the bracket is supposed to stay attached to the bumper with a little toothed clip at the bottom.

That is if you still have an unrusted bracket.

It’s not my favourite job but a good quarter drive set and it will be off before your thermos mug is empty.

Yep, it doesn’t look hard. :thumb:

I’ll take the front bumper off and it’ll give me a good opportunity to give everything a good clean behind it. Do you want first dibs on the mesh Si?

Thanks for the tip. Hopefully that will become clearer to me when I start taking it off.

You don't need to take the entire bumper off to remove that. Just the front engine cover. It'll take about 10 minutes to remove and you can stick your hand behind the bumper and pull all that crap out, no I don't want it; hurl it in the Solent!

when i took my bumper of the 2 brackets on the sides were it rusty pieces :surrender: and i had to angle grind of the nuts holding it on at the wheel arch, as they were round off and melded into 1 lump of rusty metal

That I can relate to. The guy that does my shot blasting pulled a proper face when I gave him those brackets. When I collected them, he said “they’ve come up ok actually, I was quite shocked” at least he clarified the look on his face originally.

That's pretty common nowadays. Finding a non rusty replacement is just as hard (maybe you can get them new for a price?), some people run without them but then the liners have nothing to hold onto.

Well I haven’t got round to it yet. I got “stitched” up with my poorly kids two weeks ago (being self employed is great, just don’t tell the wife when you’ve got a slow week planned). Then the grandparents were poorly last week so I had to have them again last week. Looking after kids is hard work, give me a regular job any day!!!

As for the rusty bracket, Jim has just had my front end off and I’m sure he would have said something if there was a problem back there.
