Lakes Weekend @ Fat Lamb Inn - May 26th to 28th 2018

As discussed on the club weekends thread, please use this thread to sign up and discuss.

Saturday 26th to Monday 28th May

The proposed agenda for Sunday will be:

2-3 hour drive and stop for lunch.

1 hour drive and stop at Lakeland Museum for a couple of hours.

1.5 hour drive back to hotel.

Will update the proposed route on maps later, but the plan is to follow Tony's suggestion.

However, as Tony advises, this will depend heavily on weather, as the mountain passes may not be fun in the wet in a zed.

So we may spend more time at the museum, or take more main road routes.

Depending on what time people arrive Saturday, then we can arrange something for the afternoon/evening if there is any interest.

Depending on what time people plan to leave Monday, then we can arrange something for the morning if there is any interest.

The Fat Lamb, Crossbank, Ravenstonedale, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, CA17 4LL

Please call Paul directly on 015396 23242 to book yourselves in, the club is not handling the bookings.

There is a group deal for 9 or more rooms, but no more than 1/3 of rooms booked can be singles.

The deal includes breakfast and evening meal for both days. The evening meal is from a special menu, not quite the main menu.

£250 for 2 people for 2 nights.

£155 for single room for 2 nights.

There are 12 rooms, but if we run out we can look for an additional venue close by as well.

I would prefer 7 but I’m really not too fussed either way.

Ditto - but will happily go with the majority:cool:

Like you say, have a good lunch and we may be grateful of the later slot..

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The other group eating is a party of 25.

My concern was that if we said 7, and we're late back for any reason, it would be unfair on the owner, chef and the other party, and we would likely end up eating at 9.

So I thought it better that we start late, and should have no knock on effects if we arrive back a little later than planned.

the owner has put 2 of the spare rooms back onto general availability on their site, so we now have just 2 more rooms reserved for any late bookers.

he will put these onto general availability in early May as well if noone else has booked them.

Very sorry to all but I can't make it now.

All will become clear later

sorry to hear that Tony. hope whatever is in the way goes well for you.

i guess we will be following a satnav or pre-written route, and hopefully not get lost

Hi Craig Yes there are only one or two critical points on the route

There is a very tight junction at the start of passes that might make a 3 point entry to the road in aLWB Zed

There is one Turn on the first pass that is about a ! in 6 steep as it goes around. best take a run at but make sure theres nothing coming the other way

When you come off the second pass there is the Eskdale railway running alongside the road for a while and then you come to a T junction. Follow the signs for Wasdale Head

When you leave wasdale head do not turn left to back over the passes but contuinue straight on to Kirby bridge and then back up to Ambleside

Hope you enjoy the trip

Craig has done it already in Google maps I'll do a narrative for you

Leave Ambleside for the Langdale Valley. Go right to end of the Langdale valley passing the Langdales hotel onto Chapel Stile, and Great Langdale. Follow this road to the end of the valley. Turn left, right at the end of the valley and take that road. Rise up a bit past Blea Tarn. Follw the road and come to a slightly oblique junction. You need to turn right here and you may not be able to swing the ZX right round. Thats what I meant about a three point turn. This road becomes the Wrynose Pass Follow this road and enjoy the spectacular views. Turn right and the end of the Wrynose Pass onto the Hardknott Pass.Go over the Hardknott pass and follow this right down to a proper T Juncion. King George 1V inn is on the far right corner of this junction Turn Right

Follow this road to Stanton Bridge And turn Right for was Water and Wasdle Head. There is a Nice Pub at Wasdale Head where you can have lunch

Retrace your steps to Stanton Bridge and go Straight on this time and follw the oad all the way ti Kirby Brdge There are some spectacular views from this road of Windermere

I cant find the saved map files, must have left them on my previous work laptop :(

What i do have are the screen captures that i sent to confirm the route with Tony previously.

I will have a go at recreating the google files again, but if anyone else is more adept, and also can upload to their own satnav and run point, then that would be ideal :thumbup1:

We can change the second route, to go via Torver, Conston, Bowness, to get more scenic drivetime, and bypass the Museum altogether if we want, its all flexible.

I'm hoping to make this meet. I'll be picking my interior up from Si end of next week, got Saturday to fit it in time to come up Sunday as long as the car starts & is running OK after sitting for so long. What time are you looking at leaving the hotel?
