Double din stereo and centre console recommendations ?

Can anyone offer thoughts on the available options for a double din centre bezel please ?

Z-Thirty Two or Interior Innovations I guess are the choices ?

For the stereo unit itself principally I want a good GPS, radio and phone (Android) unit (touchscreen preferably)

Thanks

I've had a couple of double din fascias over the years, Z32-Zone's re-manufactured one and Z-ThirtyTwo's complete product. The Z32-Zone one was a new remodeled example and the finish didn't last on it, it was also fragile and filler that they'd used started to craze a little.

When Z-ThirtyTwo launched theirs, I bit the bullet and bought it thinking it would be much better. Well, it was and it wasn't. It looked great on the surface, but looks are only skin deep. A well made and well fitting product it was not. I did a decent enough job of managing to line it up on the dash, but it felt nasty and it was made of nothing more than 3D print glue. It was VERY brittle and again, the finish did not last on it. The brackets that were supplied were dreadful. I appreciate that it wasn't a mass produced part and there's no way any of them could have invested in an injection molding tool to produce a quality product based on the potential market but still, you're better off with a new Nissan item and fitting a single DIN head unit which was what I ended up doing. I dislike flip-out headunits intensely.

A new OEM fits perfectly, the finish looks great, everything lines up and you can use the original brackets so that everything stays screwed down nicely with no rattle or vibration. Give your clock a really good polish before you refit, makes a huge difference.

I also found that having a touch screen system in the Z was awkward also. There's quite a stretch to reach it and without easy-to-see tactile buttons, it was more a pain in the ass than anything. Furthermore, if you're driving with the tops off or the blinds out, it creates so much glare that you can barely see a thing.

I don't use SatNav in my Z all that much, I either navigate by map, which, when touring is a far nicer way to do it as you know where and what you're driving through. SatNav takes the fun out of 'fun' driving. I have SatNav on my phone if I really need it.

The system I ended up buying was a top spec Alpine single din headunit with bluetooth connectivity. I can link my phone straight to it and have a flush fitting mic. I prefer it heaps over the double din alpine that I used to have.

I had a fairly custom interior before, with aftermarket steering wheel, full custom leather, aftermarket centre console with double din head unit, a sub and amp in the boot. I've never been happier than when I ripped it all out and went back to something a little more 'factory'. It looks better, feels better, IS better. :)

Just my 2 penneth.

Don't know much about head units as I've never and never plan to buy a brand new one, just try to get my 90s tastic inherited items working...

What I do know is that Z centre also have double din fascias for sale, and that the Z Thirty Two one is quite a bit more expensive, or was when I was looking into filling the hole in my dash.

I decided against as now I've found it, I couldn't live without the little cubby box thing!

Is the single din oem fascia still available from nissan uk? In the new year i think i will revert back to the original setup of single din.i already have the compartment with the door to go under the head unit.

Touch screen in the Z is hard work and as Si has said the glare when the roof is off makes impossible to use.

Thanks guys, I hadn't considered the glare issues presented by a glass roof and such an expansive windscreen coupled with the rake of the dash.

Some more food for thought.

I bought the zcentre double din fascia. It looks nice and fitted fine, but i havnt had it long enough to comment on life. The brackets however were complete rubish. One was made a different size to the other , bent in the wrong places, and at the wrong angles, with holes the wrong size in the wrong places. Binned them and made my own

Yes, at least when I bought a full set back in July (from allcarpartsfast):

68260-40P00 LID-CLUSTER £117.46

68261-30P00 LID £22.19

68477-40P00 MASK-VENTILATOR £10.45

68478-40P00 MASK-VENTILATOR £10.45

Expensive parts (all plus VAT and P+P)! You could also try Mike@MJP.

Thanks chaps. I think this is a xmas present to myself. This is the start of returning my Z back to near original spec. A full strip out and respray is on the cards soon.

As said above, you can. So you can be sure that Mike at MJP will also be able to supply them new, too.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As an owner of a newer Peugeot where they did absolutely everything to remove all of the buttons inside and relocate all controls to a touch screen I have to say I agree with Simon; no tactile feedback is a pain to drive with.! Always having to take your eyes of the road to adjust just a minor thing!

Should I ever buy a 2din for my Z or any other car then it would at the very least have to have buttons for skipping songs, adjustable volume knob a mute button.

But then again I find the little pocket under the radio to be a practical part of the interior...
