I'm after a genuine Apexi air filter, does anyone know where the best place to buy one is in the UK?

There's loads on eBay but I'm assuming most are fakes as they are mainly coming from China.

I'm not wanting to spend ridiculous money on one, but not I'm not sure how much they usually go for either with all the fittings etc.

Got my new one from conceptz, don't think anywhere in the UK sell them

Have seen them on Concept Z site. Might get the black vinyl strip for under my rear spoiler at the same time then

Never heard of that site, looks like they have some good stuff though. Definitely worth baring in mind but the same kit is much cheaper with CZP.

I'll have a chat with Ian next week re an order from the US.

Not worth it IMO.....

.......I know they are supposed to give the best performance, combined with better filtering ability; but when I fitted one to my blue Zed, I felt it actually performed worse!

So I just bought another universal cone for about £35 - albeit one of pretty large proportions - like the one I sold to Voddy, when I got the Apex-I; and the car ran better once more...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Given the problems with water ingress I think free flow panel filters in the original intakes is a better deal all round.

Id agree but most of us ditched the airboxes ages ago jeff.

Ive got jwt pop chargers on mine and like them.

I do still have an original air box... Is that the better option...?

Jeff

I asked about this a week or so back and anyone who answered the thread said that pop filter was the way to go...... As I was looking at getting a free flow panel for the standard box with a view of reaching around the 350-400bhp mark

If you put a pop filter on, keep the splash guard to stop water getting in it. Personally I couldn't go airbox myself as they are very restrictive, and I like chucking away lengths of unnecessary plastic pipe

The induction system is not that clear as most of it is hidden behind the bumper and headlight bowls.

So check out the first pictures, this shows how the air box is fed from each side by flat profile tubes, this draw air from the corner of the bumper area where it meets the wing.

The tube and the size of the intake to the tube do seem to be the most restrictive part of the system, this is what fitting an induction kit overcomes.

Looking back at the actual filter housing, it can be seen to be a good design with up swept design aimed towards the afm, its also has primary and secondary chambers, this forms a volumetric chamber that increases air speed whilst reducing swirl that can lead to negative pressure areas / pressure pulsing, in all a very well designed housing.

But of course there is always a rub and that is getting air to the box, the front of the zed is compact and with coolers, fans and bumper supports so the air is taken from the bumper corners, trouble is the access to there means the delivery pipes are a flat small profile and no doubt this is ok for stock but can be improved upon.

Look at the two delivery pipes here, the size and profile is not conducive to free flow..

air box r.jpg

So given the flow restriction appears to be before the air box, by removing them and opening up the delivery ports on the air box, will give improved flow to the filters even standard ones, and if free flow panel ones were fitted then it would seem a fair conclusion that the benefits of an induction kit had been achieved without the draw backs from water ingress.

The air box can be removes and the delivery pipes just cut back, the air box opened up at the sides to match the output size.

Despite Irish weather I haven't had problems with water with my APEXi filter. The Z32 kit has brackets to fit the OEM splash guard under it with a small flex.

I wouldn't use an Apexi air filter if you are using it as a daily driver

I had one and it caused no end of problems with getting the MAF wet. Eventually swapped it to an intake with two upward facing Mushroom filters and solved problem

Those black vinyl strips are a right pain in the hoop to install! When I had the OEM spoiler fitted I couldn’t get one fitted right and it’s a one shot affair so no second chance, in the end I had it painted on.

I know! I've already had one and botched it up:lol:

I have a spare one if you would like to have another go. Had it for many years, but it has been stored

in its box. Cover postage for me if you do.

That's really nice of you Andrew, let me know how much you want for it via a pm along with your PayPal details and I'll send over my address. :)

Going to be buying the air filter tomorrow so I just want to check that it is a 75mm filter I need?

Depends. If you are buy a universal one you will need an adapter that bolts onto the maf. That's why people buy the apexi as it bolts on.
