TheRealNips
So after the disappointment of failing to fix my first red zed, I came across one on ebay a while back. After a bit of haggling, I was the proud owner of a rusty, smoking red zed! First thing was get it welded, My welding friend is a wiz, so he spend 3 weeks welding it up, making sure it was perfect. He has worked on these cars before, so knew exactly what to cut out and repair, he then waxed it, oiled it, protected it, etc. As long as I am careful, it should be good for many years he said! Next bit was getting it to quit smoking, as a smoker myself this is not easy! After buying several 50g bags during a Spanish holiday, I set to work. The block was fine, the heads were fine, but the turbos were trashed. Bent and missing blades, oil running everywhere. Two re-furbed turbos later and the car had virgin lungs, something I haven't had in years. There is still a list to go: front passenger seatbelt doesn't like to retract, front bumper needs changing, wheels need changing, headlights stuck on full beam, passenger door isn't hung right (it clips the body when shutting), driver door lock just spins and spins, central locking doesn't work, but alarm and immobiliser work when ever it feels like it! But it has an MOT and I can drive it to work with a big grin! As you can see I have a long list of things to plug away at and keep me out of trouble for the winter! Enough writing now, I can hear you all screaming "where are the pictures, damn you!" so without further ado... and finally I have my two car garage! Funkysi
Ex forum car from Dorset. Glad those horrific wheels are going! Well done on the purchase and looking forward to seeing it de-chaved! :)
TheRealNips
The wheels and the front spoiler are going but not yet as funds are limited! I changed the fuse, lights worked normally until I drove away and it blow the fuse again. I'm guessing some kinda of short somewhere? tomfromthenorth
I had that and it was 2 wires that had rubbed bare behind the front right light. But it took a lot of finding, I had all the lights hanging out at all 4 corners and traced them back into the car. It was also wrapped in tape. I'll dig up a pic... TheRealNips
Happily driving home at midnight after work the other day and just happened to check my o/s mirror as at the same time the glass fell out! I watched and heard it bang down the side of the car! Nissans really like doing the unexpected, I should know this after 3 years of ownership really... On another note, my black one is sulking. I used the red one for 8 days to run it in and get used to it, then used the black one for 2 days, on the 2nd night it split a pipe on the back of the engine and dumped all its coolant (People may remember my trip to Europe last year...). Luckily I was less than a mile from home, so nursed it home and next day got my tame mechanic to look at it. Its fine, just needs a new hose, however apparently the hose is shaped like a double-S and weaves its way around the back of the engine, so I need to get one from Nissan as he cant supply it. I think ill have to use the black one more, just to make it feel more loved.... Is this the same with kids?! TheRealNips
That's the one! I went to Nissan today and after explaining to the spotty 12 year old at the spares department what a 300zx was I was finally told the pipe is only in Japan, no stock in Amsterdam, and will cost £48 + vat l, could be up to 6 weeks to arrive too. I have the part number so will search the internet, see if I can get it cheaper.
