Best product for removing wheel weight residue/sticky crap

The insides of my wheels I try to keep clean. Unfortunately whenever I get tyres changed, I'm left with unsightly residue/sticky stuff.

What's the best stuff to dissolve all this? I know there are plenty of products on the market, but there's often a small foam backing on these weights which also sticks firm and a lot of the residue removers can't penetrate this.

Would brake cleaner be good? The wheel insides will be cleaned and waxed after.

i have tried loads of different things on my bike wheels, and always found the thumbnail to be the only reliable way :(

heating them up a little first helps remove most of the backing and just leaves bits of glue, which is easier once the foam has gone

Heating is a good tip, get the hairdryer out!

I scraped the foam off, but had to use a bit of brake cleaner on a microfibre towel to remove the fine residue as scraping was clearly not going to shift it.

good soaking of WD40 and gently scrape with an old plastic credit card size thingy, WD40 lifts breaks up all sticky residue very quickly:yes::thumbup1:
