Hi guys, basically I just signed up so first I'll say hi to everyone :) I love the 300zx and have always wanted one, just thoght I'd ask some advice about buying and yes I have read the buying guide :)

So I've seen this Nissan 300zx for sale and it's a 3.0 na, it's had a single turbo conversion and is mounted in the rear. Guy says it's a squires turbo system (no idea if that's good)

I'm assuming it's been built for drifting as it has a welded diff, I was going to get the diff replaced for a non welded one as I won't be drifting lol. THe car has 84000 miles and was serviced 1k ago, has 351bhp with printout and apparently has a forged engine. Has a blitz computer and a greddy boost controller. I do have some pics but that's basically all I know. He's selling it for £3,500 but will take £3k, sounds cheap but I don't know what a single turbo 300 goes for?

If I was going to view the car it's a few hours away so would have to buy if I went as I don't want to waste my time.

Can any of you guys give me guidance? Never owned a Nissan but am I going to hav issues with it? Don't want to buy it then it die on me in 2 weeks or so. Is it worth it or would I be wasting my time? Many thanks guys, also sorry if this post is in the wrong section. I'm a newbie ??

If it's been installed by D2 of Stood as per the original thread, then it's likely to have been fitted to a very good standard.

Darren @ D2 was a Nissan Master Mechanic and had full Nissan training on the 300ZX and is highly skilled from what I know

The rest though about the inconsistencies in the information and the general design of what has been fitted leaves a lot to be desired

Thanks for that info bud, But do you think it would still be in good condition, was fitted 6 years ago now. How much bhp do you think it would have lost? Probably need a new turbo? Still a lot to ask lol

Just so you know, with an na engine there is not a lot of headroom for the engine as in upgrade paths. If you push it any further it's going to go pop so it really needs a TT engine or forged before any further upgrades.

My opinion, as it appears there are many variables to that car. It would require someone with experience and knowledge to have a look at at really asses what exactly is going on.

Get yourself a factory twin turbo mate, at least you will be able to decephier what should be there and it will make more power than that anyway.

Just so you know...this car uses a stock vg30de, i.e. A non turbo longblock, stock longblock.

There's more to it than that obviously E85 fuel being a major factor. The motor itself isn't the issue as such.

Unfortunately Darren at D2 has retired.

He did a gearbox swap for me over a year ago.

He knew his way round a Z like a few others do really well.

Pity to see him go for us around Kent.

I will not discard the Z just because it's got a single turbo setup.

We have a few guys in our group running TT NA's without issue (stock internals). Granted they are running on E85 and two on them are running without intercoolers (they are test mules at this point).

My point is, if you have a capable tuner in your area familiar with either nistune, haltech or any other aftermarket EMS and you don't mind putting time, sweat and blood on cars. I will say go for it.

Inspect the car and asses all damages and make a decision.

It sounds like you'd be in way over your head with it tbh mate, get a TT for what you can afford and learn on something that's built from the factory, that way you know what you're getting and there's obviously a ton of info along the way to help you get it sorted.

Sounds like it would be a money pit and with your budget you'd be better finding a good project tt to buy in my opinion.

Could/will probably be a ton of headaches buying that and with a seller making out it's forged he more than likely hasn't got a clue and it could have just been run into the ground since it left the original builder.

In your case it sounds good on paper, in reality its not worth the hassle. Avoid mate.

Glad to hear that lol that's exactly what I thought! I'll stay away and save up a bit more!!

Thanks for all the help guys!! Really appreciate it. Think I'll save up and be smart about it, the seller hasn't replied to any of my messages since I asked about previous history and what not. Thanks guys!!!

Whilst I agree mostly. Trouble is E85 is not available in the U.K., you can buy it from special places but it's certainly not on pump.

Still remember the guy from the 2016 coventry meet he bought his for £500 i think it was, set of plugs and a battery and it passed an mot

Haha my best mate that. 250 pound, plugs and battery haha. Lucky devil
