Hello, everyone! I am Ed, as I have bought my first 300zx I decided to create a build thread to show others what I am going to be doing and to ask stupid newbie questions :)

 

So few weeks ago I have bought my first 1991 twin turbo manual 2+2 300zx. Before that I had r33,s13 and loads of bmw`s. Z is a JAP import spec, 43 000 mix of miles and Km, shell is pretty much rust free besides few bubbles on the boot lid.

 

Engine has been rebuilt 2000 miles ago so it runs spot on,it is currently on a stock boost. I am waiting for the stage 1 turbonoz chip to arrive, so that will take me to around 380-420 bhp with a 15 psi boost, more than enough ! :)

 

Current plans for the car is Coilovers, Full car wrap, new wheels, engine mods, body mods like side skirts, splitter, diffuser, exhaust, making interior as clean as possible.

Today I have also worked on installing GReddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller. Never done that before and I thought that I need to take the car to someone more experienced.

 

I have struggled to find any useful information for twin turbo engines but after watching one video which was super unclear and going through a diagram decided to try it anyway.

That lip is custom made. My friend made a fibreglass mold and gave it to a guy to make few copies and he have done shit job on them... so they will be remade soon.

 

And that uk 300zx is going back to life, we have bought it few days ago after standing for 9 years, got it running, sound absolutely perfect, i will make a video today on it :)

That fills me with joy as it was my first Z and my daily driver for a while! I sold it back in 2006 as the sills were showing evidence of rust and the turbos started smoking heavily when the car was left to idle (plus the fact it was an auto).

 

I wouldn't say I regret the decision as I'm very happy with what I have now but it sure was sure a sad day when it drove away and when I saw the car pop up on eBay I hoped it would go to someone wanting to restore it.

 

A restored UK car is worth decent money these days so it's probably a good investment. Will you start a new thread for me to subscribe to?

Wow !!! when I saw the sticker of 300zx.co.uk the first thing what I thought was, old owner should be here :) this zed was on ebay for the last 3+ months as a non runner. When I looked at the map the car was like 2 miles away from me. First thing what came it to my mind was, we need to go and look at it! All what the seller told me is that the car was covered for the last 8 years and he bought it as a non runner with intention to getting it running and resell. First he said that the immobiliser is stuck and the fuel pump is gone.

 

After playing with the fob for a bit i got the immobiliser working and the starter have started turning. Then I have checked if the fuel is coming to the engine and it was! After that I have told the seller if i get it running we will buy it of you as my friend really wanted a zed. I have taken a coil pack out and check the spark and there was none ! first thing what came it to my mind PTU is corroded I have taken it out and cleaned all the pins and the car have started in half a turn after 8 years ! But it was running on 5 cylinders, Then i have checked the compression and it was all good, and yes we bought it haha. We got the price down from £2200 to £2000 and next day I have started looking in to why the cylinder is not running, the voltage was coming to the plug and the OHM on the injector was fine, so I have cleaned the pins and it fired up on all 6 cylinders :D

 

there is few surface rusts but the worst one is, driver side rear sill that needs welding. After running it for around 5-6 hours smoke has started appearing from passenger side turbo so I think the engine is going to be going out soon for the new turbos.

 

Future Plans for the UK Zed - We have picked up manual conversion for it already haha, fix up the rust, fix the turbo smoke, get 99spec tail lights, wheels, coilovers. He said he might keep the same colour as he likes it. At least we know that its not going to rust no more for the next 8 years ! And if you want to see your Zed coming back to life I will post a link of a video up on my Zed`s thread as everything is going to be posted on my Youtube channel :)

For some stupid and unknown reason my youtube got suspended, I have wrote dozens of emails and got denied, called to usa youtube hq spoke to them and got no help at all and gave up... Found my old channel deleted everything of it and re uploaded all my videos luckily I have saved them in my hard drive! If any of you have been subscribed to my old channel, delete it as is gone, and here is my new link. Thanks :)

Thank you!!! finally two weeks later we received the injectors and got them fitted, now it runs on all 6 cylinders. The only problem which is happening now that it doesn't want to idle, keeps revving up and down, I am thinking it might be idle control unit on the plenum. Here is a video :

quick update we are going to do manual conversion on UK zed this week and if everything goes well I am picking up another 300zx 2+2 twin turbo,import,auto next week which i found parked up for the last 5+ years :)
