Hi guys,

What is the best and reliable HID light kit you can buy for the Zed as one of the lights have failed just after two years and just need some thing decent that doesn't cost too much, will look forward to your reply's. Thank You

Plenty on e-bay, no need to pay too dear, under £35 for a pair and get the slim ballast type, I like the 6k colour H3 Fittment.

Hi Jeff, hope your well I had it fitted by yourself and one side has stopped working I did pay £40 for them, just hate doing the job twice and more money to spend when I've hardy used the lights, just want the issue solved before my mot is due next month

Could be the bulb that's gone, could be the ballast, you can buy just pairs of both and they're interchangeable so swap over your ballasts and see what happens .

Hiy a buddy, well the technology has improved on the one`s on e-bay these days, was not uncommon for failures in the earlier days they were available so your small usage could bear that out. You might find by swapping the ballasts from left to right if it the bulb or the ballast, that way you could just purchase what is needed, having said that the kits are so damn cheap these days here is links to some.

Correct you just need somewhere to hide the ballasts

And 8000k is very blue tinted

I prefer 6000 or 5000 for an ice blue/white, or 4500 for a yellowish tinge

4500k does not give a yellowish tinge. Mine are 4500k and they are still very slightly blue. 6000k I had before and that was too blue, I'm even tempted to go for 3500k. It depends what you like really. 3500k - 4500k give you and OEM look and are brighter than 6000k.

8000k are plain awful.

If you put 5000k as pure white, going below that is going to be slightly more yellow.

They might vary from manufacturers but I like my 6000ks

Too blue for me! Glad you like 'em though.

There is no yellow tinge on my headlights. Depends what wattage the system is also. All of them vary as you've said. The list above is not infinitesimal. I'd say 4500k was pure white although my headlights are proof that that's not the case, they're still slightly blue, but since their scale is either at 4300k or 5000k, there is no information on what's in between.

You'd have to say the origins will be China, there is no 100% guarantee Simon you have got exactly what you ordered, they are just churned out, sellers don't have a clue what they're selling in most cases, you ask them any sort of technical or even a simple question and they're stumped and will offer you a refund to protect their feedback.

I have heard they put 55w labels on 35w ballasts.....how would you know - you wouldn't.

Think if you ordered 4300k bulbs next, or again - you'd find contentment !!

Oh I know this! They're much less blue than my old 6000k ones and the blue tinge is very minor; merely pointing out that they weren't yellowy and other kits of the same spec I've seen haven't been 'yellowy'.

I wouldn't mind it looking more yellowy as it's a little closer to what OEM units would be. 3000k is much brighter. :)

Something to bare in mind is that "55W" HID bulbs are the same units as 35W HID bulbs. The actual increase (often overstated

by sellers) is achieved by overdriving them to increase the intensity of the arc. This results in excessive heat, electrical draw and

a decrease in the bulb lifespan (a bulb running "55W" will typically last about half as long as a bulb running 35W).

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

You'll get no light from 8000k, why not just put the factory bulb back in and splodge some dirt inside and then guess where your going :pinch:.

LOL im new to HID, wasn't sure what the number meant...I presumed it meant power although cant be any worse than they are at the mo.

I fitted HIDs because the z lights are useless!

No mater the technicalities 6ks HIDs r better than OEMs

Personally anything that upgrades the z to OEM has to be better?

Isn't that why so many on the forum change brakes/wheels/ exhaust/gearbox/lights/ect?

Exactly...great cars but could be better.

Hi, thanks for your reply Jeff and everyone else wasn't expecting that many reply's, I will try that out first to see which one is at fault. Thank You

.....My thoughts too!

4500k will give you the best light output - and a closer appearance to the OEM HIDs you see on many German motors. Colour is all about style and no substance; we all need to see in the dark, so be sensible and don't go too blue:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

In a nut-shell, yes! We do it because, as good as the 300zx is, it still stuffed with 1980s and 1990s technology..... And whilst these cars can still hold their own against much more modern machinery, those few little 25 year old foibles need updating; and keep the 300zx an easy modern classic to live with!
