"Mr Tracey" was my English teacher at George Mitchell School in Leyton, back in 1982.....!!!

Not only was he head of English, he also ran the "Explorers' Club," taking groups of us on camping and adventure weekends. And he produced the school magazine - on which I was the editor; and I would often be working in his office at lunch times. Hell, looks like I had a lucky escape.....

Watching you is like watching Keanu in The Matrix... dodging all those bullets...!!

Maybe you just didn't look angelic enough Richard?

Joking aside, things like this make my skin crawl.. I don't understand why the world is full of these sick minded individuals.. I say why lock them up and cost us all a fortune to keep them when a bullet will cost about £2.50

Just as bricktop says... Feed 'em to the pigs...

I agree, although sadly our legal system isn't quite as good as we think. False conviction and inprisionment still happen. Look at American death row prisoners, there have been a number of innocents executed and that's why the process is now so long. Being 110% sure of guilt is pretty hard.

I agree Stephen, but in my mind if you imprison someone wrongfully for a life sentence, I don't honestly see the difference.. The small percentage of mistakes are still going to end up ruining the life of the innocent ones and those who are guilty (the high majority of people convicted) remains the same. At least if you're convicted wrongfully and then shot, you wouldn't live in a cell for 25 years and suffer..

Of course I do understand that shooting them is never a perfect answer due to the possibility of corruption and false allegations etc.. However, the law has a much better success rate nowdays.

The unfortunate thing is with these types of people, is that the sentence received is usually under ten years, meaning they'll be out to mess up a whole new generation of kids.. Life should mean life..

As fun as that would be to watch it wouldn't really help. There's a bigger societal problem - people don't recognise the difference between paedophile and child molester. The former isn't something they can choose or control, so you can't really blame them for it if they don't act. But even if they want help, they can't really get it. Almost all would never even seek help from a doctor because they're immediately ostracised if anyone finds out. There's a great biopic documentary about someone exactly like this in the UK but I don't recall the name. Makes you wonder how many people are actually like that.

Then again, I'm sure there's a lot of arseholes out there that don't want help.

Isn't something they can choose or control? Wtf?

Are you one of these people that think people choose to be gay? It's not a choice whether it's deviant or not.

They have the choice to act on their impulses whether it be above the law or not. 2 consenting homosexuals is a huge difference between non-consensual with a minor. It is a choice if they act on it and pedos act on it in some horrifying ways.

That is exactly what I was saying. The definition of "paedophile" only mentions attraction, which isn't something anyone can help no matter what it's towards. Acting on it is a completely different matter.

It's like comparing a gay man to a gay rapist.

Maybe - but this is probably because people would rather not look up the definitions.

And the epitome of ignorance is punishing the sick people that do these things without giving a second thought to how to actually prevent it happening in future...

Indeed. It was more of an open question rather than a scientific one.

From what we see in the press, pedophilia and / or molestation is rife, it can manifest itself in a number of ways through many years and often remain hidden either out of shame or out of fear. I don't believe or know of a way that you could identify a person's cravings if their daily behavior is normal. I have had first-hand experience with this as I was molested as a child - I wouldn't' have normally brought this up, but since we're on the topic....

Thankfully the offender passed away about 10 years ago. It wasn't particularly horrendous in action, but it was unpleasant as it happened a number of times and it freaked me out, you wouldn't even have suspected though. My parents were utterly mortified as it was a close family friend, an Oxford Scholar, a lay preacher and a person you'd never suspect. I had the full support of my family when I did tell them, but it took me about 18 years. I did not take this person to court. Part of me wishes I had, part of me wonders how many other young boys/girls were affected.

The stigma is an issue on both sides, I suppose. I don't know, maybe it doesn't represent much of a proportion of them, but we shouldn't have a situation where if someone genuinely thinks "I don't want to be like this" they're afraid to seek help. Some kind of support for even a small minority like this would be an improvement.

The film I mentioned is called "The Paedophile Next Door".

Sorry to read this si.

Unfortunately, this is my point. The people who may or may not be in control of their actions are not the victims. They may well have been victims themselves but that's no excuse for repeating the offence to someone else. It is in fact a start reason to not put someone else through the mental and physical abuse that they went through..

Wether molester or paedophile, people in society deserve to be able to live without fear of these people.

I agree that the government do not do enough to try and help these people but, that said.. If we are to look at things in the way of comparison to wether you can choose, it's very easy to say these people can be helped but also its a fact that just as gay men or women do not choose to be gay, it's just who they are. This is the same for molesters and paedophiles. It's an inbuilt part of who they are, so if it's not possible to change someone who is gay (which incidentally I am not homophobic, just incase anyone is offended by what I am saying)

How can anyone help someone who is a molester or a paedophile?

The behaviour they display is normal in their mind and they don't see it is wrong.. Obviously, homosexuality is not wrong and thankfully is becoming accepted as it should, as it is a practice between consenting adults who are gay.

Helping paedophiles is in my eyes something that is virtually impossible. Protecting the youngsters that are affected by these people is the better road in my opinion. It's a sad fact that most paedophiles who have been given "help" have gone on to reoffend over and over. I do hear more than most about these things as my wife is in the legal profession.

It's sad that these things happen in the world nowdays, but I'd rather concentrate on protecting my daughter from them because trust me when I say, a bullet would seem very kind compared to what I would do to anyone that fiddled with my daughter...

Well, this is interesting. Lest we forget here that the issue we're discussing is a purely sociological one as, in some cultures, sex with children is perfectly acceptable.

It's a sign of the times that Paul uses homosexuality as an example of something that is "not wrong" when, just a few decades ago (and again, in some cultures to this day), it was right up there with child molestation as being completely unacceptable! I'd just like to add that this isn't me saying that I think being gay is "wrong," because I don't think that. To each, their own, and all that.

Maybe the day will come when what we frown on today is seen as completely normal and acceptable. Who knows?

As Jay has said, I think there's a big difference between attraction to a minor and the subsequent acting upon that attraction. I have my own opinions and experiences regarding these things, but I'll keep those to myself for the time being.

I'm around them every day and to say that they are calculating, intelligent and manipulative is an understatement!!

They're predators and while some are embarrassed very few are remorseful. In fact I would class a lot of them as pure evil!!

I won't be commenting on this further.

Casting my mind back to 1982/3 - very difficult now, I know - but I do remember some of the teachers, their character traits and the nicknames we gave them....

.....Some cruel, some funny but all the playground rumours, gossip and general piss-taking might sometimes have had hidden truth! For instance, Mr Tracey was jovially referred to as "queer" or "nonce." At the time, it was usually without evidence or cause - but kids can be perceptive; and there is often never a truer word said in jest... I mean, just look how things turned out!!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
