Have you tried cleaning it up with with a wire brush that goes on the end of drill it might not be as bad as it looks

Looks like surface rust to me!

As said wire brush, normal drill & or dremel.

That way you will see if the rust has eaten through.

Then go about treatment.

I'd be tempted, if you can't find a good replacement that is. To either relocate an appropriate battery to the boot, I don't personally merit that much tbh. Or have yours/another acid dipped and galvanised.
