Have posted a few times on here late seems very slow and dead! When I had a zed a few years ago these forums were bouncing!

 

Not moaning I think Facebook groups have taken over and its a sign of the times! Is there a Facebook page or some were everyone is at nowadays?

I did see you're post Ken, limited advice I could give so chose to leave it to people that could tell you for certain.

I suppose its this time of year where everybody's busy and the forum is less important than family etc. Facebook is a mostly a different crowd (on the nismo and marketplace forum) and the club's facebook posts once in a blue moon so its not much use. I would guess facebook is just a more unified thing people would be browsing anyway and its easier to see new posts etc.

 

Im sure the forum will fire up when things calm down a little.

Forums do seem a little dated now! But 6years ago there wasn't so many groups on Facebook now it just seems the go to place for discussions. I kind of like the old school forum style so would seem a shame for them to due a death!

 

I noticed this forum has a Facebook page but it's a page it should be a group were club members can post!

I don't think they are dying out, they are for different things. The forum is recognised as a car club, has tech threads, competitions and specific features which won't be on facebook.

 

Also this club doesn't have a booming user base, with regular members not any bigger than 50 people. The facebook group has a lot more because its more accessible and convenient for them.

I think that facebook is a good place for quick answers, but forums still seem like a good place for for in depth posts an discussions rather than how do I refil the washer fluid type questions. but yeah also time of the year probably.

 

To be honest I feel like a lot fo places have been quiet zed wise... Not many mint motors for sale in a while.

There is a massive difference in my opinion! You used to post a thread and a day later it would be on page 2 lol

The facebook groups are busier & youll get a lot more replys but there seems to be a lot more idiots on there. I prefer the forum myself.

Whilst I use a couple of Z32 Facebook pages (US ones), I prefer to use the forum. Fortunately the only busy UK 300zx Facebook page, the poorly named 'Nismo UK 300zx' is dreadful, full of trash and idiots and I prefer not to waste my time with it. The main US one is pretty good though, but it helps I know a lot of the guys on it them or are highly active.

 

In addition, searching is a painful chore, so historical stuff isn't really a 'thing', so I will always use the forum - it's a much better tool IMO and generally the information is a lot more accurate.

 

The forum has become quieter for sure, however I think over half of that is due to dwindling numbers rather than a migration to Facebook. The ownership base is probably half of what it was a decade ago.

Interesting reading and yes our numbers have certainly gone down and this is due to the number of Z32's that have been broken for parts and less are being imported into the UK. I am on most of the FB pages but rarely post on them as I can find all the information and Z friendship here.

Also when it comes to shows and meets this is where it is organized from and other groups can tag along (we exclude nobody) Our catalogue of pictures is massive and what you must remember is that you can come on the forum and check through its history and find all the answers you will ever need without posting a single post. I could go on and on about the club shop and and many more features that you wont get anywhere else but at the end of the day you go where you are most happy with.

We will always be here as we evolve into a more mature owners club with the best 300zx's in the country and members to be proud off. So yes we are getting smaller but this is the "Mother Ship" the oldest 300zx club in the UK and while some go out and try new sites they all come home to were it all started.:hyper:

Interesting point there Ken.... And one which we regularly ponder over!

 

However the dilemma we always come back to, is the direction of traffic. IE do we use the FB page to direct 300zx owners and enthusiasts to the forum (and of course the club); or do we ramp up the FB page to a group and then risk diverting even more members away from the forum onto FB...?

Facebook will never replace a forum like this. It's better for sharing media or asking quick questions, but it's shite for holding proper discussions.

 

However if Facebook ever offers decent integration with vBulletin etcetera, that could be interesting.

As previously said, FB is generally an easier way of sharing pics of "I've just cleaned the car" "lovely drive today" type posts, which used to be a common thread many years ago that bolstered the "new thread" numbers.

 

It's been a long time since I have done any work with vbulletin, so I don't know if there is any new features that allow FB style photo sharing rather than having to attach from your computer or use an IMG code from Photobucket etc.

 

For me, the leadership to the club now is more in tune to how I thought the club should be run compared to previous incarnations (hence my defection and subsequent more active behaviour). My point being, personalities make the club as much as the content

Agreed, I'd rather be a member of a small group with credibility, knowledge and integrity, than a larger group with fewer informed folk.
