Yep one of our customers, Top gear approached us looking for totally standard zed that could be put up against a totally standard 350z, at the time that white zed had less than 30k on the clock. When it came in for service it still had the plastic covers on the back seat and even on the bonnet release lever.

As with many UK zeds the engine had not been correctly PDQ`ed and the engine still had the sticky gloop that should of been removed, it was nasty and so we detailed the engine in preparation of the TG day.

The car is still owned by the same guy and he lives in Birmingham, he owned a large carpentry company but had a heart attack a few years back and the car has been laid up as a consequence, but heard this year it was brought out for the Summer.

Was a great clip - I think one of only two appearances on Top Gear of a Z32.

350Z owners will tell you "yeah but it's faster in the corners". I'd like to see this redone with a slicktop TT. :D

What's PDQ in this context?

Four by my count. This one, Gios car used in the fastest Zed drag race, the budget coupe episode where Hammond has a red one and a purple one that red light grand prixs past Hammond in London on a scooter.

Yes more zeds appeared on TG, the white one mentioned above and a second red one I think maybe more, the red one was one of three cars they drove across Europe for under £1,500 or a grand cannot remember now.

All was not quite as its seems been tv, the water pump failed on the zed the day of filming and a TG researcher rang us to ask if we knew a quick way to change it, e-mailed them a breakdown of the job and later they called to order the parts that a courier collected !!!

PDQ is an engine wash system derived from the US designed to remove the clear / brown gloop engines were covered in from factory at the time, if not cleaned off when new after many years its still stays sticky and gets a layer of dirt and grime on it, cleaning off then is a long dirty task.

Note: Was only used on UK cars not JDM imports

Is this zed still on the road?

DVLA has no record of it, so I'm guessing it's either been off the road for a lot of years or is simply no longer with us....

Good job those awful chromed headlights are a thing of the past! Everyone was doing that 10 years ago. Never saw the appeal.

There was also a segment done around 1998, remember because it wasn't long after I saw my first one parked up in our factory car park.

Seem to remember it revolved around tunning, culminated in a dino session with a vert which had been converted to TT topping out the Dino they were using.

Only saw it that once so my recollection may be a bit fussy.

I rememeber that. Lots of Widearch modified examples. Think it may have been with SE NISSAN/NiSSTEK.

I also seem to recall that Gio's Z on the All generation Z race had a boost leak at the time.

That would be been on Top Gear GTi and the segment was by Steve Berry. I uploaded it about 8 years ago to http://www.streetfire.net/video/tg300zxmpg_708674.htm but I think the streetfire website is down.

The other TG appearances were :

Top Gear 'burnouts' (again, sadly lost on Streefire)

http://www.streetfire.net/video/top-gear-burnout-nissan-300zx-tt_635885.htm

Fold-up Scooter challenge. Part way through the challenge you see a hideously modified 300zx race Richard Hammond off the lights who's riding a collapsible scooter. Dump valves all going off too; highly cringeworthy.

300zx also gets a mention in this clip.

from 2.20 onwards. (working link)

Not TG, but this car was owned by a forum member for a while.

5th Gear's segment called 'Cheapskate Lamborghini' - some BS information in here, like the symptoms for a dodgy boost gauge and failing alternators. Dave Collinson owns it now.

I first saw the failing alternator BS in a Japanese Performance Magazine review of the Z32, where it cited Zedworld as its technical source. I very much doubt Jeff would of said such a thing, so no idea where they get it from.

Burnouts? Is that the one with a whole bunch of old smart people who try to do a burnout in pimped out zx? Think it had chameleon paint also? :-)

After 22 years of use my alternator started to make a whining noise due to a failed bearing but it was an easy fix with a new bearing fitted into the original alternator. So they cant be that bad.

I've killed one, due to PS pump leaks.

It's funny how people talk about certain parts on this car as unreliable, because they fail after 20 years!

Me too. You hear, I took a 25 year old car that hadn't been serviced for 20 years, turned up the boost and it blew the engine. Must be a shit unreliable car, it's the only logical conclusion.
