Posted October 16, 20168 yr Hi all, I would like to get a personalised "300" number plate for the zed. I know you can't go newer when you change them, but what if it is changin to a different format? ] ie. currently it is M652 VPT, can it change to: W300 XX Regards,
October 17, 20168 yr Not with a W at the start you cannot As Dean's said, you'd be trying to identify your car as being a W reg there, so not possible sadly :(
October 17, 20168 yr ahh shame, even with it being a different format?? I'm assuming that the correct reg number would be W30 OXX, with the spacing changed so it read 300. So no, I'm afraid. A friend of mine hunted for ages for a W reg Celica (Gen 6) so he could put his private plate on it.
October 17, 20168 yr ahh shame, even with it being a different format?? One is M reg ( 1995 year ) and the other W reg ( 2000 year ) no format difference both are known as Prefix Registration numbers starting with a single letter, then followed by numbers. Jeff Edited October 17, 20168 yr by JeffTT
October 17, 20168 yr Personal plates in my personal opinion  mine came with one but it means nothing, to me at least. I think it was the original owners intials. Yadda yadda MF. Pretty lame and puts the car on an A plate, I've been tempted to sell it but it's not worth enough for the hassle. Just kinda seems like a way to blow money to me, doesn't do anything. Most are so tenuous or vauge you have to modify the spacing or know what it's supposed to say to even see it, which in the case of spacing is something lame to get pulled for. I'm sure some will disagree with me and that's fine but I'd have to personally be desperate to waste my hard earned for a goody plate. Save your money for go faster parts.
October 17, 20168 yr Author ahh okay thanks for info. I wasn't sure if the 6 letter/number format would still count as the same reg as a 7 number/letter reg. I know they are a bit marmite, but once the car is finished I think I would like a "300" number plate in the same way the NSX all were issued "NSX" plates, just a finish touch down the road.
October 17, 20168 yr I'm pretty sure Ash's slickie has the number plate N300 SWB (-nissan 300 short wheel base-) or something to that effect.
October 17, 20168 yr Author Ah yeah I've seen a 300 Swb but I think it went for a grant at auction! Nice plate though
October 18, 20168 yr I'm pretty sure Ash's slickie has the number plate N300 SWB (-nissan 300 short wheel base-) or something to that effect. Yes it is I was the one that put it on the car, it cost £250
October 18, 20168 yr Ah yeah I've seen a 300 Swb but I think it went for a grant at auction! Nice plate though I bid online for it about 3 months ago............sadly it went for quite a bit more than a grand plus fees, regret not having one more bid - possibly .
October 18, 20168 yr You can get good deals on them think I payd 250.00 for mine If they don't get you pulled then nothing will.
October 18, 20168 yr I'm tempted on getting C30 OPD. I already have C10 OPD on my daily driver so it would match nicely I do quite like my standard plate though
October 18, 20168 yr Cheap option would be to change your name to M652 VPT https://www.gov.uk/change-name-deed-poll/overview

I know I'm a fine one to talk - since I have 3 myself - but I am inclined to agree with Steve. Unless you keep it simple, eg like having you initials, then don't bother trying to spell words or the like. They look stupid and will only get you pulled by the police for mis-representing the letters. That bloody registration number seller - Reg-Transfers - always makes me laugh. They have a selection of "names" available; but most of them are so tenuous, that no-one would ever guess what they are supposed to say. In fact, their own adverts say it all - since they have to spell out the name next to the reg number for sale, just because the characters look nothing like the name they are supposed to represent... I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

October 19, 20168 yr Looking stupid aside, I remember reading that imports don't have to abide by the spacing designated or something like that. Checking, will edit when concluded Not sure Ali - and will of course see for sure when you have checked - but I believed that imports merely had the concession of not having to abide by the standard number plate (or font) sizes; if, and only if, a standard sized UK-legal 'plate could not fit on the car. I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I think I must be remembering things about character spacing (not represent spaces)that JoelyP wrote from the legislation.
