Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I was going to wait until the whole project was finished before i write this up, but i find myself with time to kill. I have had my zed for a bit over a year now and have done a couple modifications to it: HICAS Delete Larger SMICs Larger Radiator but the one thing that really bugged me the whole time was the style of the car. this was mainly down to a mismatched paint job and this summer i set about rectifying this. These are pictures from the first day i bought the car: Quote
Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 The first thing i changed was the exhaust tips from the Oval styling to Quad tips! Once this was done, i went about finding the right body shop for the job and eventually i found them. I gave them my list of what i wanted done and then they cracked on. First they removed the spoiler and filled the whole and then removed the tail lights and centre panel and then started to smooth the boot lid I had asked them to widen the rear arches to match with the front: Quote
Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 They then proceeded on the rear arches, adding filler and sanding until it looked just right I was really pleased with the end result of this. It was noticeable but not in your face which was perfect. A delivery arrived from the US so i took it down for a test fit I have to say i was very surprised and happy with the fitment! A couple of week later i took down the light that Andy had done for me (Thanks again!) and had these test fitted. In my opinion these look a lot better than the 3 pot lights that were on there! Quote
Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 Weeks later and the car had finally been put into primer and in the paint booth! For the colour, i went for a bright and crisp white Quote
Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 What seemed like a lifetime later the majority of the body was in paint. I think it looks amazing! Here you can really see the difference from the engine bay paint: I had also asked them to paint my chrome repeaters black to tie in with the theme Quote
Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 The bonnet was the painted and re-attached And the rear end was re-assembled with a small add-on that i may have copied and pasted from a photo of Baz's (old i think) Zed! I then spent a few hours wiring in the new lights and centre panel and removing the old mangled loom for the three pots (Thanks paul for the loom and andy for the centre panel lighting up!) Then it was back into the paint booth as i wanted the top of the car black to blend nicely with the glass from the windscreens And the bumper emerged in new paint also! Quote
Evaansss Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 I asked that the bumper be layered in mesh to protect from stones and the like And this was then mounted with a new little bracket for the number plate so it can be easily removed for shows! And then had a lovely rim delivery too (18x9.5 ET38 - i think - all round) Quote

phutumsch Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Nice thread, good read, good work, keep the updates coming :). Particularly like the bumper mesh, it's always something i've considered doing to mine if i'm honest. Quote

Particularly like the bumper mesh, it's always something i've considered doing to mine if i'm honest. It really does add to the style of the bumper. A subtle difference but a strong impact I think Quote
Gaz 300 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Love it Evans your Z is going to be up there with the best mate. Quote
Joely P Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Holy smokes, what a fantastic transformation. That's an awesome looking machine you have created [emoji41][emoji106] Quote
Evaansss Posted October 15, 2016 Author Posted October 15, 2016 Thanks everyone, still more to do but if it follows the trend of all the other work I think it'll be perfect! Once the body is finished she will be going to Jimmer for a full workup, with turbos being replaced as they're puffing some blue and hopefully this will keep her running nicely for years to come! robsz32 Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Excellent work. Great choice on the color, Z looks great. Quote
Evaansss Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 So just had another report on the Z. Good progress made! Spoiler and bootlid painted and attached Targas painted and re attached but missing a couple trims And all the lights up and running! It's a happy day for me, could do with a glass clean though!
