The rebuild has finally started today and so far in a few hours I've managed to completely strip the interior.

 

 

 

Next job on my list is to get both the bumpers, tailgate and bonnet off.

 

After that i'll work on the body panels and stripping down the engine.

New fuel hose arrived so time to get the fuel rail assembled again.

New Nismo 740's and new caps to keep them from moving.

This is the perfect time to get all your bolts re plated! I want to refinish the throttle body linkages (all the bits in this pic) but due to how complicated it is I’m a tad worried!

I've got as far as putting them in two separate containers so they don't get mixed up.🤪

Time to clean up my front water pipes, they were previously polished but had 5 years of tarnish and gunk on them.

So i sanded them down as a first stage and plan to get the polished again shortly.

Also cleaned this pipe up which connects as the back of the engine.

Stripped back to a bare finish and just need to give it a protective painting now.

Craziness.

I hate polishing, manages to get these more or less smooth with a air sander and polishing kit but can't get them anywhere near shiny.

No way in hell am i attempting the plenum.

Do you think very lightly keying up the surface of these pipes and clear coating them with some heat proof stuff would preserve the polished finish? Never really thought about it before but wondering if it’s possible or not. 

I've managed to get the main parts smooth enough i'm thinking of just getting these powder coated.

Guess powder coating is a fit and forget option so probs best for long term 👍🏽

About to give up zed life over a bloody plenum.

This is so frustrating, burned through £40 of various polishing wheels and sand paper.

All the scratches are near enough gone but its a dull grey with loads or dark clouds all over it.

Managed to find a guy in Glasgow who's going to do it all for me, drop it off to him in a weeks time.

So back to twiddling my thumbs while we wait, could be another few weeks now.

 

On the other side of the country concept are prepping a new order of a few things i'm missing.

Coming together now. 

Just a few bits to get polished. 

few new parts to fit in the next week or so;

 

Starting off with new water pipes machines from aluminum.

Then new linkage for the throttle bodies as the crumbled when i took them to bits.

Lastly we have a new engine wiring and starter loom.

Slight upgrade on the loom as this one was custom made and has extra connections for sensors and after market solenoids so they can be picked up by my Link G4.

 

Interesting facts about the Pro version of this loom; they have moved the PTU to the start of the loom; near the ECU end.

That's a great idea for taking the PTU away from the heat source and keep things tidy too.

Out of interest are you going to be running a dual Link CAN lambda kit?

Yes,

Already have those to fit, i also had new fittings welded to the exhaust but the guy i used put them in the wrong place.

I've been told factory downpipe location is too close and can lead to early failure of the senors.

 

Water pipes now done, had to wait for new hose to arrive before i got this done.

Feel free to do a sanity check on this setup to ensure its done right !

Also time to swap out the old oil cooler for a new, don't trust the old one as it was part of the blown engine.

The one on the left is the new unit.

Lastly started to fit the new engine loom and get it seated nice.

I like how it has updated sensor plugs included, below is the IAT sensor.

Can the engine loom be fitted with the engine in Lee?

It can, but easier doing it now when the engine is out. 

I had to remove the air con condenser unit under the dash to get the old loom out. 

This would be tricky on most zeds as you need to degass the air con.
