Well typically the day before a long journey my Z is giving me issues.

I installed an aftermarket boost gauge as the car hasn't got any sort of boost gauge whatsoever, and it's boosting to 0.1 bar. I can hear the turbos spooling up nicely but it just doesn't speed up much lol.

Only other things I've done is blanked off the recircs - 4 large pipes and two vac lines and the battery light is on so maybe it's not at full voltage.

Tried doing an ecu diagnostic check but it's not working, and shorting the two terminals on the diag plug isn't working either.

Any ideas anyone? Or it will be a slow boring driving to Coventry lol

Electric boost gauge Baz?

Its a just a vac operated boost gauge, straight off the balance bar

Check the fuse marked up engine cont its in the fusebox under the bonnet passenger side by the headlight, it is the alternator exciter circuit, it also feeds power around the engine to the various things. It is a red 10 amp, change it even if it look ok with a fresh one, they have a habit of going high resistance and can cause all sorts of issues see if the battery light goes out then.

Of course you may have somehow caused a massive boost leak somewhere and a boost leak check will find that.

Thanks Jeff I'll change it over in the morning!

You are doing this under load right? Not free revving? This is s mechanical vacuum gauge yeah? If you genuinely cannot make more than 0.1bar then you either have a major boost leak, inter cooler pipe popped off etc or you have a seized turbo.

Yeah under load when driving mate, I wouldn't just sit there revving my car I'm not 18...

Are you sure that the Z you have fitted this to is actually a TT...................????....................... And not an NA????

Just putting it out there Baz...........

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

I know mate, but you wouldn't be the first.

How well is it idling at the moment? If idles fine, I highly highly doubt it's a popped hose. Last time I popped off and intercooler hose clean off, the car wouldn't idle at all.

Sorry to say it, but this sounds like a turbo failure to me

Sadly I think you might be right. Mine sounded like a scooby with one popped off.

I'll hope not lol. One thing I did find was the knock sensor unplugged - and the opposing connector had some tape flapping off it and no resistor in sight... would this affect and cut the boost?

Yeah but to roughly 7psi, ie waste gate pressure. Which is like half a bar, your getting 0.1? Run your ECU codes see if you getting code 34 or not.

could the waste gate be stuck open so the turbo was boost

I guess it could, from what I understand though failures pretty rare, I would of thought you'd still get boost as well just be a very laggy delivery. The chances of them both failing. I think Jimmer said, pop the turbo outlet off and see if it blows out of it.

Danger of diagnosing z32 faults is to go too tech too quickly, almost certainly in this and most cases its something simple, you checked / changed that fuse yet? the battery light been on is not good.

I'll get a boost leak check done this week so hopefully that will find it. When driving everything sounds normal, there's plenty of aftermarket bits so the Z1 turbos are very audible, I did get 0.4 bar when I was near home so the varying boost theory stands to reason Joel.

Yes Jeff I swapped it over with the AC one, I had a battery fail so it was an old one I had kicking around that I had charged overnight which maybe didn't have full charge, I charged it up again the next night and the light wasn't on at all for the Coventry trip.

Point 4 - bet that was fun !!!

My ebc is on it's low setting.......i was getting 12.8 on the way home, pleeennnntttteeee :p.

EDIT : Oh point 4 bar, read it as point 4 in psi......doh !!!
