Been trying to fit some decats to my car today. For info it's a 93 import TT (manual conversion) with greddy turbos.

Anyway, I have some new japspeed decat pipes but they just don't seem to fit. The main issue seemed to be the drivers side, it hits the floor pan so impossible to fit properly. So, I remember ages ago that people had said the auto and manual pipes were different. I'm guessing that would be to clear the gearbox though, not the cars underbelly. Any ideas?

Also the hangers didn't seem to be in the right place.

Here's some photos and you can see the japspeed has an extra bend compared the the old knackered one.

Sent mine back to them, a few years ago, when the did the same on my NA, they tried to argue but it was on a nissan ramp at work, bought some off a member after that,

Tried telling me they do fit, I was doing it wrong etc, but then I pointed out it was on a ramp at a nissan main dealership that I worked for, they went quite and returned/ refunded them, have to say the cat back I bought at the same time from them was a good fit thought,

I've had these sitting for over a year though so I doubt I could really challenge them.

You have to remember guys that the Japspeed stuff is designed for the US market and therefore the downpipes are based on the left hand drive models. They can be fitted with a bit of persuasion with a lump hammer, some people have issues and some including myself at the time no issues. May be a batch issue or design change, i know the manifolds were designed for left hand drive the O2 sensor on the drivers side had to be moved as the union would catch the steering shaft.

Are they still traders on here Groover? I don't get why they'd design something for the US market and sell them in ours? Surely that's a recipe for disaster and does anyone know if the US cars are even any different underneath?

I've got these on my car, were a pig to fit.

Ended up taking them to an exhaust place and they modified them so they fit better and didn't hit the chassis, as they tended to knock when hitting bumps.

Japspeed havent renewed their membership, after many emails to remind them, although they are not official traders here, their listing hasnt been removed from the traders section yet.

I know for sure the manifolds are for left hand drive cars, those that have bought them in the past can vouch for the O2 sensor placement on the drivers side. As for the downpipes, seems to be a lottery on the batch you get them from, not consistent at all.

So I guess another question would be, where can I buy some decent ones

Hmm, mine went on fine, though are very close to the floor on the bend up the manifold / headers.

I had (maybe still have) dodgy running, and could hear the pipe hitting the floor / bottom firewall. All was fine on normal running.

I know when I bought mine, they were selling them weekly via bidding on ebay for very little....as if selling them off maybe. I think I got mine for about £80, which I don't think is bad.

Saying that, when I get my Zed running properly, I might find that they knock. I don't expect them to though...I don't need yet another problem!!

I fitted japspeed decats to mine just over a week ago. The passenger side fitted fine except for the bracket, but the drivers side fouled the floor of the car. I had it off a few times and had to 'adjust' it with a blow lamp and lump hammer. It's fine now. I didn't think it was too bad considering the price.

Only thing is, why should we have to hit the fecker with a hammer when there's stuff being sold that doesn't actually fit

Not really, however the TT US/EURO (and some UK) models have precats and the real TT decat pipes are different/shorter compared to these and you'll usually get a set of downpipes with these decat kits, although they bolt on to the precats.

The pipes you have were originally designed for (US) NA models and this may be the cause these pipes won't fit very well on JSPEC TT models

I have the TT Janspeed ones and apart from the bracket not engaging 100% they fit fine. No problems. They are cheaply made Chinese parts Lee, fitment varies from batch to batch and that's why they are cheap. Ones that bolt up perfect from Yankee land would of been far more expensive.

I had them fitted to mine and they had a massive dint hammered into the drivers side

From what I was told an Auto has a slightly different shape underneath and as such, if you car was originally an Auto then it needs adjustment.

If your car is a manual from factory they fit fine (not sure how much truth is actually in that).

THanks Lymon. I have some of those type too sitting in the shed but they don't fit the car as the greddy turbos just have elbows that come off them which are apparently the same as stock. The turbos are a 3 stud triangle pattern too ive ive never seen any kind of divorced downpipes or anything for them

Thanks mate.

I thought the body was the same and the gearbox was a little different so the pipes for the manual wouldn't fit the auto but would be okay the other way around. I guess a factory photo of auto front pipes against manual ones would show the difference would it.

I might get a hammer out yet, only thin is, I'm guessing it'd still be a little close to the body

In other words you get what you pay for. Unfortunately in this country were pretty limited by what's available as well. Have you thought about tweaking them? Using a jack and the weight of the car to MAKE them fit? On the plus side the welds are alright and they don't rust in 10 minutes flat.

Mine was originally an auto which has been converted to a manual, so there might be some truth in the autos being different.

Mine were catching on the edge of the transmission tunnel, I don't think a Jack would have helped. They're very strong being stainless, so I wouldn't fancy jacking them against the car. I found some heat, a lump hammer and a block of wood worked okay, once you get over the initial fear of hammering your shiny new pipes!

Doesn't fit... Get a hammer lol. Would a normal hammer not do? I get its a case I put a dent in and it fits. Do they not knock at all though

It's not ideal, but it works and it doesn't knock or vibrate at all!

The other option is to take it to a decent exhaust fabricators. I had a decat cut and re-welded so that it fitted my 200sx properly. It was quite reasonable too.
